Hattie (SLP) and Michaela (OT) tested out an obstacle course before a session the other day - because how could they not?! Safe to say it's harder than it looks, and the kids make it look WAY too easy!
Every section of this course has been designed to target the sensory and motor systems your child needs for learning, self-regulation, and everyday life. This is what OT looks like when it's disguised as fun!

🐛 1. Lycra Tunnel Crawl Deep pressure provides proprioceptive and tactile input to regulate the nervous system, while building bilateral coordination and core strength.
🏀 2. Hopper Ball to Swing Bouncing delivers vestibular and proprioceptive input to wake up the brain and body, while developing motor planning skills.
🪜 3. Ladder Climb Builds upper and lower body strength, bilateral coordination, motor sequencing, and spatial awareness.
🐒 4. Monkey Bars in Lycra Swing Combines vestibular challenge with upper body strength, grip, core stability, and bilateral coordination - all with calming proprioceptive input.
⭕ 5. Hoop Jumps to Finish Targets motor planning, sequencing, and visual-motor integration as children coordinate their bodies to land accurately in each hoop.

🤩 Happy Friday!
Bluey is used during sessions to help model and desensitise headphone use in a fun and engaging way. This playful approach helps support sensory regulation and build positive associations with managing loud or overwhelming sounds in different environments. 🎧

Meet Elise, our wonderful Speech Pathologist at Norman Park, who is passionate about early language and AAC and loves building strong connections with families 💛

What is your role?
I am a Speech Pathologist at Norman Park

Why did you become an OT/SP?
I always knew I wanted to work with children in a healthcare setting. I was lucky enough to be offered work experience at a paediatric speech pathology clinic in high school, and I absolutely loved it. From that moment on, I knew Speech Pathology was the path for me!

What is your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of the job is watching the joy and excitement on children's and families' faces when they achieve something they didn't think was possible. I love building children's confidence and capacity so they can reach their full potential.

What is your favourite resource?
Mr and Mrs Potato Head! I love how creative and silly you can get with it, and it provides so many wonderful opportunities for language modelling.

Favourite area to work with?
I love working across a variety of areas, but I have a particular passion for early language and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).

Sometimes the best part of a big therapy day is a cuddle with Stella 🐾💛

At BillyLids Therapy, we’re big believers that caring for children starts with caring for the humans supporting them too.

A quiet moment. A wagging tail. A reset between sessions.

It’s not always a meltdown 🤍
Sometimes dysregulation looks like saying “no,” walking away, being silly, or completely shutting down. And in those moments, it’s easy to think a child is being difficult…
But more often than not, they’re overwhelmed and they don’t yet have the tools to tell us.
This is where our OTs do what they do best ✨
By understanding each child’s sensory preferences, triggers, and nervous system, they’re able to put the right supports in place to help children feel safe, regulated, and ready to engage.
Because when a child feels regulated, that’s when the real progress happens 🤍
If you’re noticing these behaviours and aren’t sure how to support your child, we’re here to help. Reach out to BillyLids Therapy to learn more about how we can support you and your child.

Meet Olivia, one of our lovely speechies 🤍 With a warm and caring approach, Olivia focuses on connection first to help her clients feel comfortable, supported, and ready to learn.

1. What is your role?
I am a Speech Pathologist at the Newmarket clinic

2. Why did you become an OT/SP
I always knew that I wanted a job where I could help people and ensure they felt heard and valued, so becoming a Speech Pathologist where I could quite literally help people find their voices felt like the perfect job!

3. What is your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part of my job is seeing the spark and excitement in my clients when they achieve something that has been really tricky for them (like a difficult speech sound), or when someone finally understands what they are trying to say. There is no better feeling than seeing that smile spread across their face and the way they then try to communicate even more!

4. What is your favourite resource?
It's hard to pick just one favourite resource, but at the moment my favourite resource would have to be pens and paper. There is so much expression that comes from drawing and writing and it's always incredible to see the creativity of my clients shine through. So many speech and language goals can be incorporated into drawing too (e.g. story telling, speech sounds, following instructions, asking and responding to questions, etc.).

5. Favourite area to work with
I love all areas of this job, but I have a special interest in literacy, language, feeding and complex communication (e.g. AAC and switching).

🎂 🥳 Happy Birthday Julie! We hope you have a wonderful day. 🎉
