Ocean Star took the plunge for a wonderful cause on Saturday morning!

With clear blue skies, calm water and surprisingly mild conditions, it was the perfect morning for our Dip for Cancer.

A wonderful group of 19 employees, residents and family members gathered in the car park above the beach to cheer on our brave participants and show their support.

Together, the Ocean Star community raised $70, helping bring the total fundraising amount to $300.

Thank you to our employees, residents, families and friends for getting behind the event. It was a fantastic community effort in support of an important cause!

Residents and guests at Archbishop Goody Residential Care recently enjoyed a fascinating evening of stargazing with Jacob from Star Tracks Astro Events. 🔭✨

A break in the clouds provided the perfect opportunity to begin the evening outdoors with a closer look at the Moon, before everyone headed inside for an entertaining presentation filled with interesting facts, great questions and plenty of laughter.

Later, the group ventured outside again, where some were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of Alpha Centauri A and B between the passing clouds.

Thank you to Jacob for sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm and creating such an enjoyable experience. The evening was such a success that there are already calls for another stargazing night! 🌙⭐

Catholic Homes has enjoyed outstanding success at the Western Australian Hospitality in Healthcare Excellence Awards.

Our Resident MasterChef Project, led by Stephanie Ellwood and Vivek Shetty, was named **Project of the Year**, while St Vincent’s Chef Manager, Godofredo (Jeff) San Diego, received the **Brilliance in Service Award**.

We were also proud to see Sister Mary Glowrey Head Chef Manoj nominated for the **Values in Action/Exceptional Customer Service Award**, recognising his person-centred leadership and commitment to creating meaningful dining experiences for residents.

More than 50 residents from five Catholic Homes locations helped bring the MasterChef project to life. They grew herbs, created table settings, practised alongside our chefs and stepped into the kitchen as sous chefs for the final mystery box challenge.

Jeff was recognised for the exceptional care he brings to dining at St Vincent’s. He listens to residents and families, creates meals around individual needs and cultures, and develops experiences such as monthly Breakfast Clubs that help residents connect and form new friendships.

Congratulations to Jeff, Manoj, Stephanie and Vivek, as well as our residents and everyone who contributed to the Resident MasterChef Project. This recognition celebrates the important role food can play in creating choice, dignity, confidence, connection and joy.

Our two Western Australian award winners will now progress to the national awards. We wish them the very best! 🎉

St Vincent’s residents recently enjoyed a bus trip to beautiful North Beach.

With the ocean views, fresh sea air and great company, it was a lovely opportunity to get out and about and enjoy one of Perth’s beautiful coastal spots.

There were plenty of smiles along the way and a wonderful day was had by all!

Our CEO, Darren Cutri, recently welcomed the opportunity to meet with the Hon Sam Rae MP, Minister for Aged Care and Seniors, during his visit to Perth, alongside Dr Trish Cook MP RN, Member for Bullwinkel.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to discuss the aged care landscape and share perspectives on how we can continue strengthening services and outcomes for older Australians, their families and the people who care for them.

Open and constructive engagement between government and the aged care sector is important as we work towards a system that is responsive, sustainable and centred on the needs and rights of older people.

Thank you to Minister Sam Rae and Dr Trish Cook for taking the time to listen to the experiences and perspectives of Catholic Homes.

A blooming beautiful day at Castledare! 🌼💛

Our residents enjoyed a cheerful daffodil-themed arts and crafts session, creating large, colourful flowers before adding a little floral flair to their hair.

The activity brought plenty of creativity, laughter and joy to our home—and everyone looked absolutely daffy! 🌼

Last week, we celebrated the birthday of our wonderful resident, Eric at Archbishop Goody! 🎉🎂

Eric is always ready with a smile and a “Do you need a hand?” His willingness to help around the home and support others brings a wonderful sense of love, joy and purpose to our community.

The celebrations brought happy tears for Eric, who shared that he hadn’t felt this much happiness in a long time. It was a beautiful moment that touched us all.

Happy belated birthday, Eric! We’re so grateful for the kindness and joy you bring to our home.

We’re proud to see Archbishop Goody Residential Care featured by Catholic Health Australia for its compassionate, person-centred approach to supporting some of the most vulnerable older people in our community.

Led by Facility Manager Noelene Wright, Archbishop Goody has developed a model of care that recognises the whole person, not only their clinical needs, but also their social and emotional wellbeing, individual preferences and life experiences.

From supporting people who have experienced homelessness or mental health challenges to creating meaningful opportunities for choice, connection and belonging, the team demonstrates that our values are more than words, they are reflected in everyday actions.

On Tuesday, Ocean Star came together to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary with a beautiful Mass led by Fr Pierre and Monsignor John in our chapel.

Residents were joined by special guests from across Catholic Homes. Following Mass, each person was invited to place a shell into a bowl of water while sharing a wish, blessing or prayer, a moving moment of reflection and connection.

The celebration continued with morning tea in the Wellness Lounge, set against the perfectly still waters of the Indian Ocean. Shayne welcomed our guests, while Mary and Monsignor John had the honour of cutting the celebration cake.

Our RN, Sherie, shared a heartfelt reflection on the values and lessons she draws from the Virgin Mary in both her work and personal life. Resident Dorothy “Dot” also spoke about her move from our Independent Living Village into residential care. Although initially apprehensive, Dot shared that after settling in and making friends, she now thoroughly enjoys living at Ocean Star and is deeply appreciative of the care she receives.

The day was made even more special by the thoughtful contributions of our residents. They baked a delicious batch of strawberry blondies for morning tea and prepared thank-you gift bags for our guests, complete with beautiful crocheted starfish handmade by Shirley.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this meaningful celebration possible.

Making the most of a beautiful winter’s afternoon at Ocean Star!

With the weather unusually warm, our residents enjoyed a leisurely walk along the nearby footpath. We feel incredibly fortunate to have such a lovely location, and take every opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy it together.
