WE MADE IT TO THE ARIAs! 🎬💙

We’re incredibly excited to see our community-created su***de prevention music video Shannon on the 2026 ARIA Awards Best Video industry voting ballot.

What started here in South West WA, with around 100 people from our community coming together to help create this video, has now made its way to the ARIA voting stage.

ARIA Industry Voting Round 1 is now open, 2–9 September.

If you’re an ARIA Voting Academy member, we’d be incredibly grateful if you would take a look at Shannon and consider us when casting your vote. 💙

Ron will be guest presenter tomorrow morning (Monday) at the Man Walk as part of the CinefestOz celebrations. He’ll be discussing some behind the scenes stories and we will have a Q and A session also.

Guys, If you have never done an early morning walk along the Busselton Jetty, here’s a great chance. Meet at 620am at the Shelter, order your coffee and then at 630am head out and back along the jetty for the 45 minute return walk, pick up your coffee and pop upstairs for the talk. See you there!

Announcing a special CinefestOZ linked presentation at the Aug 31st Monday Man Walk.
Local legend Ron Hood from Artists for Su***de Prevention will join us to showcase and discuss his powerful and very successful music video Shannon.
The video has won international acclaim and a swag of awards already. It is now part of the competition and showcase of Australian Music Videos at CinefestOZ on 3rd September at Froth Brewery in Bunbury.

We attended the Jebediah documentary Are We Ok ? last night on opening night of CinefestOz.
Highly recommended, such a well thought out and eye opening doco about one of WA’s most well-loved bands. Pic of the Q and A at the start of the event.

Sometimes, the most important stories are the ones we need to stop and listen to.
🎬 Watch the trailer for Shannon — a powerful short film about connection, hope and the reminder that you are not alone.
Take a few minutes. Watch the story. Share it with someone who might need to see it.

THE WALL — PART 2 🎬

There were so many beautiful synchronicities throughout the making of Shannon, and this was one of them.

We don’t know who painted “You Matter” on this wall.

For 2–3 years before filming, Ron (creator of the project) would regularly drive past it. As filming approached, other graffiti was being sprayed along the wall, so hoping those two words (and the little ❤️ and the peace symbol) would survive became a little stressful!

We even considered putting a clear protective coating over them, but worried it might change the appearance or affect the lighting.

Then, on the day we were due to shoot the wall scene, rain stopped production.

On screen, Shannon leaving the bar and arriving at the wall happens seconds apart. In reality, six weeks passed between filming the two scenes — meaning Tiff and Mel even had to match their hair and clothing for continuity.

Thankfully, when the rescheduled filming day finally arrived, “You Matter” was still there. ❤️

The wall became the turning point in Shannon’s story.

Sometimes, simply being there, asking “R U OK?” and offering someone a hand can change the direction of their story.

Then, just two weeks after filming wrapped, Ron drove past again.

“You Matter” had been graffitied over.

After being there for years, it disappeared just after we had finally captured it on film.

It almost felt as though its purpose had been fulfilled.

Whoever painted “You Matter” — we’d love to meet you one day. ❤️

Here at Artists for Su***de Prevention, we believe in supporting people and organisations doing meaningful work in the mental health and su***de prevention space, and we’re very happy to help promote valuable resources like this. 💙

Su***de: Hope Beyond the Darkness by Sydney-based suicidologist and author Debbie Swibel is an excellent, well-written and compassionate book exploring su***de from several different perspectives.

The book is divided into four parts: stories from people who have attempted su***de and survived; understanding what su***de is and why it happens; stories from people who have lost someone to su***de; and managing grief following a su***de.

It’s clear that an enormous amount of work, care and thought has gone into bringing all of these stories, experiences and information together. An excellent and valuable resource.
