30 Days of the Practice of Creation 🌱💫
I have been thinking lately about creativity and how good it feels to make something without needing it to lead anywhere.
I wonder whether we have lost some of this in the pursuit of what we think we should be creating, something purposeful, productive, polished or ready to share. When every idea is immediately asked where it is going, we leave little room for curiosity, play and the pleasure of creating simply because we want to.
There is a particular kind of presence that comes when we become absorbed in creating. Our attention gathers around what is in front of us, the clock recedes and, for a while, the process itself is enough.
For a modern nervous system accustomed to constant input, interruption and anticipation, this offers a very different internal experience. Rather than dividing our attention between multiple demands or continually scanning ahead, we spend time with one thing. Nothing is asking to be resolved, we are simply participating in the experience as it unfolds.
For the month of October, I am setting aside 20 minutes each day for a creative pursuit, and I am inviting you to join me. You might return to something you once loved, remain with one idea for the month, explore something different each week or try something new each day.
There is nothing you are expected to finish, publish or sell. Something larger may emerge, or it may not. The intention is simply to create for the pleasure of creating.
**This is a free 30-day practice beginning Thursday 1 October. **
What would you love to create? Comment creatives pursuits you would love to revisit or begin.
