👀 Words come and go but visuals help them stick

At Small Sprouts Therapy, we see this every day 🌱

Spoken language moves fast. For some children, it can feel like trying to catch something that’s already gone.

Visual supports help slow things down and make communication more accessible by giving children something they can see not just hear.

They can support children to:
🌿 Understand routines
🌿 Learn and use new words
🌿 Make choices
🌿 Share ideas
🌿 Join in with confidence

From visual schedules and choice boards to simple pictures at home, visuals turn everyday moments into communication opportunities.

Because communication is not just about talking 💚
It is about connection, understanding and participation!

If you haven't signed your child up for one of our groups...why not?? 🤯

Miss Izzy is having alot of fun planning, setting up and getting her Game On! with her fortnightly group.

Sometimes it's hard to tell who is having more fun...the kiddies or our therapists. 🎨

We all know having fun is the only way to learn so get ready for the release of our next school holiday group!

✨Reading is more than learning words ✨

🧸It’s cuddles on the couch.
🦘It’s laughter over silly stories.
🛌It’s comfort before bed.

Books help children learn — but they also help children connect.

And those moments matter just as much. 💜

📚 Easy ways to support reading at home

No pressure. No special setup. Just small moments that add up.

Try:
🌙 a bedtime book
📖 talking about pictures
🎶 singing nursery rhymes
📚 visiting the library
👧 letting your child choose the book

Short and simple is more than enough.

📖 You don’t have to “read it properly” for it to count

📙Skipping pages? Still reading!
📗Talking about pictures? Still reading!
📘Reading the same book again (and again)? Absolutely still reading!

Children learn through all of it.

Reading with your child is one of the simplest ways to support their development — and it doesn’t need to be perfect.

A few minutes a day with a book can help build:
✨ language and communication
✨ early learning skills
✨ imagination and thinking
✨ connection and calm moments together

It’s not about getting through the whole story.
It’s about sharing it together.

What’s left to say other than… see you tomorrow! 👋

Don’t “wait and see” — come and have a FREE chat instead.

Bonus: let the kids make a mess in our space… not your living room! 😉

Reading with school-aged children is a great daily activity to strengthen your bond, build new vocabulary, and spark curiosity about stories.

What does this look like in Luna Roo: The Kangaroo Baller?

⚽Build rich vocabulary:
Talk about soccer-related words in the story, such as: captain, skipper, cleats, shin pads, athletes, striker, keeper, and jerseys.

💭Make predictions together
Pause and wonder out loud:
“I wonder who might score!”
“Do you think they are going to win?”
“Why do you think a kangaroo would make a good soccer player?”

🦘Connect to real life:
Link the story to your child’s world - watch clips of the Matildas, talk about classmates who play soccer or other sports, or head outside and kick a soccer ball together!

Shared reading is more than just reading the words - it’s about connection, conversation, and fun learning moments together.
