When your doctor needs a closer look, a CT scan can show fine detail that an ordinary X-ray can't. Here's what to expect at Castle Hill Diagnostics:

• A CT (computed tomography) scan takes detailed, cross-sectional images of the body — helping your doctor see organs, bones, blood vessels and soft tissue clearly
• It's painless, and most scans take around 10–15 minutes
• A specialist radiologist reviews your images and reports to your doctor, usually by the next working day
• All Medicare-eligible CT examinations are bulk billed

The CT scanner used at Castle Hill Diagnostics uses the latest technology delivering ultra low-dose imaging.

This week is National Pain Week — a good time to talk about something many people quietly live with: ongoing joint pain and arthritis.

Our Clinical Director, Dr Sandeep Tiwari, specialises in musculoskeletal imaging and pain management and is at our practice at least four days a week.

Meet the team at Castle Hill Diagnostics 👋

We'd like to introduce Kumary Radhakrishnan, our Practice Manager and Chief Sonographer.

Kumary has more than 20 years of experience in medical imaging. She completed a Degree in Radiography and a Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Sonography at the University of Sydney, and has worked across some of Sydney's leading imaging services — including Liverpool Hospital, Sydney Ultrasound for Women, and Specialist Medical Imaging.

Special interests:
• Obstetric and gynaecological (women's) ultrasound
• Pregnancy and early-pregnancy scanning
• Mentoring and training our sonography team

As Chief Sonographer, Kumary helps make sure every patient who comes in for an ultrasound is in experienced, caring hands. It's part of what being independently owned means to us — personal, consistent care from people who know this community.

Ultrasound is safe, painless, and uses no radiation — making it suitable for patients of all ages, including children and during pregnancy.

Same-day ultrasound appointments are available (where preparation is not required). In most instances, your results are reported by our specialist radiologists the same day, so your doctor can get the answers they need quickly.

Winter is a good time to think about bone health. Cold weather, wet surfaces, and shorter days can increase the risk of falls — and for patients over 70, a DEXA bone mineral density assessment can help your doctor understand your bone health. Ask your GP if a DEXA scan is appropriate for you.

At Castle Hill Diagnostics, we bulk-bill DEXA scans if you meet the Medicare eligibility criteria (for example, over the age of 70). No appointment is needed for a DEXA scan — you can walk in during business hours.

A DEXA scan is quick, painless, and uses very low radiation. It gives your doctor important information about bone density that can help guide your care.

After 50, there are three imaging health checks worth discussing with your GP.

Castle Hill Diagnostics offers all three.

1. 3D Mammogram (with Digital Breast Tomosynthesis)
Regular mammography is recommended for women over 50 years of age, or even younger in some instances (for example, if you have a strong family history of breast cancer). At CHD, 3D mammography with digital breast tomosynthesis is available with our Breast Radiologist on-site every business day.

2. DEXA / BMD Bone Density Assessment
A quick, painless, low-radiation scan that gives your doctor important information about your bone density and risk of fracture. We bulk-bill DEXA scans at CHD if you meet the Medicare eligibility criteria (for example, over the age of 70). Speak to your GP about whether a DEXA scan is appropriate for you.

3, Calcium Score (of your Heart)
A non-invasive scan that detects calcium deposits in the coronary arteries — providing useful information for your GP to assess heart health, particularly for patients over 50 with cardiovascular risk factors. Speak to your GP about whether a calcium score is right for you.

All three tests are available at Castle Hill Diagnostics.

This week is Men's Health Week (15-21 June), and it is a good time to talk about something many men deal with but do not always address - joint pain, sports injuries, and musculoskeletal conditions.

At Castle Hill Diagnostics, Dr Sandeep Tiwari specialises in musculoskeletal imaging and pain management. Dr Sandeep is at our practice at least four days a week and brings expertise in diagnosing and managing conditions affecting joints, muscles, and soft tissue.

Our imaging services can help your doctor understand what is happening - including MRI, CT, Ultrasound and X-Ray. And for patients dealing with ongoing joint pain, we offer interventional procedures including joint injections for pain management and Plasma Rich Platelet injections to assist healing, performed on-site by our specialist team.
