🌻 HAPPY HIPS | Move Freely, Feel Good

Our hips do a LOT for us.

They help us walk, stand, climb stairs, bend, get in and out of chairs and move through almost everything we do in daily life; but they can also become one of those areas that starts to feel stiff, tight or a little reluctant to move.

So this fortnight at Chair Yoga, we’re giving them some attention with Happy Hips! 🌻

We’ll explore gentle movements to encourage mobility through the hips and pelvis, stretch some of the muscles that commonly become tight, and strengthen the muscles that help support us when walking and standing.

We’ll also look at how the hips connect with the lower back, knees and overall posture, and practise simple movements you can continue at home.

There’s no forcing, pushing or trying to achieve a particular shape. Just encouraging the body to move in ways that feel comfortable and useful.

A little pause to rest and restore 🌿

I’m taking a few weeks off teaching yoga, with no classes from Monday 9 November, returning on the 1st of December. We’ll then enjoy a few more weeks of practice together before our Christmas break.

During this pause, I invite you to make a little room for rest, too. Slow down where you can. Spend a few quiet moments with your breath, enjoy a gentle stretch, or step outside and feel the sunshine.

Your practice can be as simple as noticing what you need and giving yourself permission to honour it.

I look forward to welcoming you back in December! 🤍

🌬️ BREATHE EASY | Chair Yoga for Better Breathing

When was the last time you really noticed your breath?

We breathe thousands of times every day, usually without giving it a second thought — yet the way we breathe can influence everything from posture and movement to tension, energy and how settled we feel.

Our next Chair Yoga theme is Breathe Easy. 🌬️

We’ll use gentle movement to open through the chest, shoulders and ribcage, explore how posture can affect our breathing, and practice simple breathing techniques you can use in everyday life.

We’ll also slow things down and notice the connection between breath and the nervous system. How a few intentional breaths can create a little more space when life feels busy, tense or overwhelming.

Expect gentle stretches, flowing movement, breathing practices and a lovely relaxation to finish.

🦴 STRONG BONES | Chair Yoga this Thursday

Our bones are living tissue, and just like our muscles, they respond to the way we move and use our bodies.

This week at Chair Yoga, our theme is Strong Bones. We’ll explore how gentle strengthening, weight-bearing movement, balance and good posture can all play a role in supporting bone health as we age.

Expect a practical, feel-good class with movements to help strengthen the legs and upper body, improve balance and stability, and build confidence in everyday movement. Everything can be adapted to your own ability, and the chair is always there for support.

Chair Yoga isn’t about touching your toes or getting into complicated poses.. it’s about keeping your body moving well, maintaining independence and building strength in a way that feels achievable.

A little update ❤️

Unfortunately there will be No yoga tonight (Wednesday 10 June) due to a funeral of a dear friend.

I'm taking a little time to grieve, slow down, and be gentle with myself, so there won't be class this evening.

Thank you for your understanding and kindness. I'll be back as usual next week, and I'm looking forward to seeing you all then. 🤍

Take care of yourselves, and if you can, find a little moment today to breathe, rest, and go gently too.

🌿 Urgent Update 🌿

I’m so sorry for the late notice, but there will be no Wednesday night class tonight.

Thank you for your understanding — sometimes life asks us to pause and listen, just as we do on the mat 🤍

A little reminder as well that there will be no classes next week while I’m away on the mainland.

We’ll return Tuesday 31st, back to our usual rhythm as we continue to gently explore and support our nervous systems together 🧘‍♀️✨

Thank you for your flexibility and kindness — take care of yourselves tonight, maybe roll out your mat at home or simply rest 🌙

🌈 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 🌈

Just a heads up that Yin Yoga & Meditation class next Tuesday 10th will be cancelled due to mandatory First Aid training for work.

Apologies for any inconvenience 💛

All other classes are running as usual, and we’ll be back next week.

🧠✨ 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘆𝘃𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗿𝘆

Your nervous system is constantly checking in with the world, asking:

“𝘼𝙢 𝙄 𝙨𝙖𝙛𝙚 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙣𝙤𝙬?”

Because the nervous system always prioritises safety over logic, our reactions often happen before conscious thought 💭

When the body senses safety, we can soften, breathe deeply, connect with others, and feel present in ourselves🥰🫶🤗

When safety feels uncertain, the nervous system shifts into protection — moving us into fight, flight, or shutdown — often without conscious choice.🏃‍♀️🥶🫣

Yoga works directly with the nervous system. Through slow, mindful movement, steady breath, and rest, we offer the body signals of safety and support. Over time, this helps build trust within ourselves and expands our capacity to stay grounded, even when life feels challenging🧘‍♀️

🫧 Restorative Yin & Meditation | Tuesdays 9.30am-11am | $20
🫧 Community Yoga for Beginners | Tuesdays 4.30pm-5.30pm | $10 (bookings required)
🫧 Vinyasa Flow | Wednesdays 6pm-7pm | $15

This practice isn’t about “fixing” yourself. It’s about listening to your body and meeting it with care 🌿

🍂 Safety is the foundation of nervous system health. Without a felt sense of safety, our bodies and minds remain in hypervigilance or shutdown, limiting presence, learning, and healing.

This week we cultivate an awareness of where we feel secure — in our posture, our breath, and our environment🌸

Supporting the body through grounding postures, regulated breath and an awareness of alignment gives a sense of stability that the nervous system can rely on.

Safety is not passive. It is an active engagement with what feels reliable and supportive. We explore cues of safety in the body: the feet pressing into the floor, the spine stacking naturally, and the breath moving easily 🌬😌

When the body senses support, the parasympathetic nervous system can activate, promoting calm, restoration, and a capacity to learn new regulation skills.
