Costa House at the Geelong Show! 🎨

The Royal Geelong Show is becoming quite a tradition for residents at Costa House, who enter their artwork and handmade creations each year.

And this year, they've once again had some success with their entries!

A lot of time and care goes into these pieces, so it's lovely to see their work recognised at the show. Residents really enjoy being involved, and it's great to see them continuing to get amongst it every year.

Congratulations to everyone who entered!

Fashions on the Field! 👒🌸

The craft group from Bayview Haven, along with family members got started creating their colourful floral arrangements for the upcoming Fashions on the Field.

A lot of thought went into their designs, with enough made for everyone taking part to have something to wear. Even our General Manager Neil couldn't resist trying one on! 😄

St Ann's residents were lucky enough to have a visit from 26 Grade 3 students from St Michael's Collegiate School.

The students spent the afternoon chatting with and interviewing residents, who thoroughly enjoyed having the young visitors around. One student played two pieces on the piano, handmade gifts were handed out, and everyone had a go at drawing portraits of each other!

The afternoon finished off with lemonade and some delicious cupcakes together.

The Show Comes to Derwent Views! 🎡

Who needs to go to the Hobart Show when Derwent Views has put on a show of their own! The team recently brought Show Day right to the home for residents, families and a few little visitors who came along for the fun.

The morning kicked off with a visit from some furry (and feathered!) friends, including alpacas, bunnies, dogs and a chicken. There were games and prizes, fairy floss, live music, a balloon artist and a flower show featuring blooms from the garden, arranged by staff.

The afternoon included a magic show, a raffle, show bags and mocktails, dagwood dogs and hot chips. Residents had an absolute ball, and it was lovely to have family members and their children joining us too.

A HUGE shout-out to the Derwent Views team. A lot of planning, decorating and hard work went into pulling this one off, and what an amazing day they put together!

Residents from Bayview Haven headed out to the Portland Maritime Discovery Centre recently, taking a look through the town's maritime history and spotting a few familiar sights from years gone by.

The old photos of Portland's beaches and Surf Life Saving Club got residents talking about how much things have changed over the years. There was also the historic Portland lifeboat, a photo opp to sit inside the ribcage of a giant s***m whale, and a huge great white shark to get up close to🦈

The shark was actually caught locally back in the 1980s, with a local artist later creating a papier-mâché replica for display.

They had one more detour on the way back to check out the local gannet colony, followed by a pit stop for an ice cream before the day wrapped up.

Clifton Community Health Services to join Respect

We're looking forward to welcoming Clifton Community Health Services (CCHS) in Queensland's Darling Downs region into Respect.

CCHS has been part of the Clifton community since 1949, when local people came together to establish the Clifton Hospital Co-operative. Over the past 77 years, it has grown to provide residential aged care, home care and accommodation services, supporting generations of local people and their families.

Following a review of its options for the future, the CCHS Board has recommended joining Respect to help ensure these services remain available to the local community. As part of the proposed transfer, Respect plans to expand the residential aged care home from 62 to 80 beds, creating more places for older people in Clifton and surrounding areas.

CCHS Board Chairman Andrew Douglas said the proposed arrangement would honour the organisation's history while securing its future.

"The arrangement with Respect Group honours the 77 years of committed service in, by and for the community by securing the future of the facility and services for the ongoing benefit of the local community."

Respect CEO and Managing Director Jason Binder recognised the strong significance of CCHS to the local community and the responsibility Respect would have in continuing to care for older people in Clifton.

"We understand that CCHS has been built through decades of commitment, generosity and community support, and we recognise the responsibility that will come from becoming the custodian of an important community asset."

For residents and clients, care and services will continue as usual, while staff will be offered the opportunity to join Respect.

The proposal remains subject to approval by CCHS members, as well as the relevant regulatory authorities. If all approvals are received, the transfer is expected to commence on 1 December 2026.

We're looking forward to getting to know the people of Clifton and continuing the work that local people started more than seven decades ago.

A few residents at Wellington Views have been making some new little friends through an intergenerational program with local family daycare centre Tiny Tots.

The children have been sending pictures and letters to a group of residents, and residents have been busy writing back!

It's still early days, but the plan is to keep the letters and pictures going over the next few months, giving both generations a chance to get to know each other and share a bit about their lives.

They can't wait to see what arrives in the mail next! 💌

Around 130 residents and guests gathered at The Terrace Retirement Village recently for a performance by local entertainer Paris Zachariou, who has performed everywhere from Melbourne's Spring Racing Carnival to the steps of the Sydney Opera House!

But Paris wasn't the only star of the afternoon. The Terrace resident John Duncan, once known as 'The Voice of Liverpool', joined him on stage for several songs.

At 92, John has been through a pretty tough few months, including a serious illness and an extended hospital stay. Seeing him back on stage was pretty special, and he wasn't about to let Paris have all the spotlight, even stealing a few of his lines 😄

The Terrace Social Committee volunteers put on a lovely spread of sandwiches, savouries and homemade sweets, and the afternoon went down so well that Paris is already booked to return twice next year.

A big thanks to everyone involved, and especially to John and Paris for giving the crowd such a memorable afternoon!

Dashain and Tihar at St Ann's 🌸

Our staff at St Ann's recently celebrated Dashain and Tihar, bringing some of their Nepalese traditions into the home for residents to experience. There was music, decorations and plenty of staff getting involved, many volunteering their own time to help put the celebrations together.

One of the really lovely parts of the day was when a resident gave Charmaine, our General Manager, a traditional blessing, which she then passed on to others. It's an important part of the celebrations, and something residents and staff were able to experience together.

Residents loved having a festival brought right to their home, and getting to experience traditions they might not otherwise have the chance to be part of.

Morning tea for a good cause 💗

Wellington Views held a Breast Cancer Awareness morning tea recently, bringing everyone together to raise some funds for a cause important to so many people.

The tables were decorated with fresh flowers, and there was a delicious spread of food. A lovely morning spent together.
