This story is horrific! Firstly at Grace Funerals we are always transparent; happy to show you around our privately owned and operated facilities.

This story is one of the reasons that I and Funerals Australia are campaigning for regulation in our industry. A Funerals Australia member has their Premises, Equipment and Vehicles checked to ensure that our members are keeping up our high standards and also following our Code of Conduct and Ethics. But there are no laws in Australia that consistently govern this. We need to ensure that all funeral directors are being held to the same standards. Also, I promise you that if you are getting something a lot cheaper than everywhere else - someone is cutting some corners!

A message from Georgia:

"It is with great sadness that my brothers, Cameron and Lachlan, and I announce the passing of our father, Neil Kirby.
Dad suffered a stroke last week and, after an intense battle, passed away peacefully in his sleep on the night of Wednesday the 15th.
Dad was often known as a quiet and gentle soul, but to us, no one made us laugh like he did. Our stories about Dad are legendary.
He had an incredible sense of humour, an epic taste in music and a deep love of all things native to Australia.
He could barely hear you from across the room, yet could identify any bird or frog from over kilometre away.
A horticulturist, known for his waratahs, and a man of strong faith. He may not have expressed it as loudly as Mum did, but he cared deeply for the people in his life.
I’m so grateful for the close and intimate time we were able to spend with him after our mother passed away 18 months ago. Those memories will remain precious to us.
There are no words to describe how much we already miss him.
Georgia."

You might feel as though requesting no funeral service is saving your family trouble later on.

We would gently suggest, it does the opposite.

A funeral says "this family deeply loved and will miss this person, they will need support through this".

A funeral allows families to begin to process and accept the loss, and begin to navigate a new life without that person in it.

A reminder that a funeral does not need to be formal, in a church or all in black and sombre. You can call it a Celebration of Life, and hold it in a golf club while sharing memories and laughing together.

You can even hold it in your own backyard, a local sports club or somewhere like our Grace Chapel. Anywhere that is authentic to you.

Much loved son of Jim and Mary (both deceased).
Beloved brother of James, Michelle, Dianne, Susanne and Donna.
Doting uncle to Anthony, Nicholas, Stacey, Mitchell, Timothy, Helen, Maddison and Jimmy, and great uncle to Harriette, Finley, Brooks, Perry, Mara and Sutton.
Will be greatly missed by all of his aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and work family.
