For years I've worked as a general naturopath and clinical nutritionist.

Being one of the only naturopaths in the area means I have supported everyone from children with eczema, through to digestive disorders, hormone concerns and complex chronic health conditions.

And I absolutely love that work (and will continue to see all kinds of clientele).

But if I'm honest, there's always been one area I've been particularly passionate about (other than gut health 💩).

Sport.

As a former competitive swimmer, endurance athlete, coach and practitioner, I've lived many of the challenges athletes face.

I've experienced injuries (lots of lots of injuries!).
Burnout.
Recovery struggles.
Nutrition mistakes.
Gut issues.

I've also experienced how powerful the right nutrition, recovery and health strategies can be if done correctly and how it can change your performance.

Moving forward, you'll see more content focused on:

🏃 Endurance performance

🚴 Triathlon

🏊 Open water swimming

🏋️ HYROX

🥗 Performance nutrition

🧠 Recovery

⚡ Athlete health

Because athletes deserve more than generic advice.

They deserve support that helps them perform, recover and stay healthy for the long term.

If you're an athlete, coach or parent of a young athlete, I'd love to know what challenges you're currently facing.

As a competitive swimmer growing up, there are so many things I wish someone had taught me.

Not just about swimming.

About being an athlete.

I wish I knew:

🏊 Recovery was just as important as training.

🏊 More training wasn't always better.

🏊 Nutrition could dramatically impact performance.

🏊 Sleep was one of the best performance enhancers available.

🏊 Gut health influenced energy, recovery and immunity.

🏊 Period health was an important indicator of overall athlete health.

🏊 Feeling exhausted all the time wasn't normal.

🏊 Supplements can't outwork poor nutrition.

I spent countless hours in the pool chasing improvements.

What I didn't realise was that performance isn't just built in the water.

It's built through everything that happens outside of training too.

If you're raising a young athlete, these are conversations worth having early.

What do you wish someone had told you as a young athlete?

If you're constantly adding more kilometres, more sessions or more intensity but your performance isn't improving, the problem may not be your training.

As athletes, we're conditioned to believe that more is better.

More volume.
More intervals.
More sessions.

But what if the missing piece isn't another training block?

What if it's:

✔️ Eating enough food

✔️ Recovering properly

✔️ Supporting your gut health

✔️ Addressing nutrient deficiencies

✔️ Improving sleep quality

✔️ Managing stress

I've worked with athletes who were doing all the right training sessions but still felt exhausted, weren't recovering, and couldn't understand why their performance had plateaued.

Often the answer isn't found in the training program.

It's found in the foundations.

Performance isn't built during training.

Performance is built through what happens between sessions.

Have you ever felt stuck despite training harder?

💚 WHAT ACTUALLY HELPS DURING PERIMENOPAUSE?

If you've been feeling tired, overwhelmed, gaining weight more easily, struggling with sleep or simply not feeling like yourself, know this:

You don't need to "just put up with it."

Supporting your body through perimenopause starts with the foundations:
✨ Adequate protein
✨ Resistance training
✨ Blood sugar balance
✨ Quality sleep
✨ Stress management
✨ Fibre and gut health
✨ Regular movement
✨ Nervous system support

For some women, targeted supplementation and personalised nutrition strategies can also make a meaningful difference.

Every woman's experience is different, which is why a one-size-fits-all approach rarely works.

As naturopaths, we can help identify underlying drivers through functional testing, nutrition, lifestyle medicine and individualised support to help you feel more like yourself again.

Perimenopause is a transition, not a life sentence.

💬 Perimenopause support should be proactive, not dismissive.

Which area do you find most challenging right now: sleep, stress, energy or weight management?

If you're experiencing some of these changes, you're not alone.

Many women spend years wondering why they suddenly feel different, only to discover they're navigating perimenopause.

Understanding what's happening is the first step toward supporting your hormones, energy, mood, sleep and overall wellbeing.

At Compleat Vitality, we help women understand these changes and create personalised nutrition, lifestyle and naturopathic strategies to support them through this transition.

💬 Which symptom caught you by surprise?

Meet Carly,

This is my best friend . Today is her Birthday and she officially enters her late 30's (she's 38 today), which means I get to brag to her (which I've done for the last 25 years) for the next 3 weeks about how OLD she is before I enter my late 30's 😂. I love you old girl, I hope your day is as incredible as you are 😘

PS: This photo is from 13 years ago, I think we've aged well 😝👯‍♀️

WHY DOES FAT SUDDENLY GO TO THE STOMACH DURING PERIMENOPAUSE? 🤔

If it feels like your body has changed overnight, you're not alone.

During perimenopause, fluctuating and declining oestrogen can change where your body stores fat, often shifting it towards the abdomen.

At the same time, factors such as:
✨ Reduced insulin sensitivity
✨ Increased stress and cortisol
✨ Poor sleep
✨ Loss of muscle mass
✨ Years of dieting and under-eating

can make weight management feel much harder than it used to.

Many women blame themselves and simply try to eat less and exercise more.

But it's not just a lack of willpower.

Your body is navigating a major hormonal transition and often needs a different approach than what worked in your 20s and 30s.

The good news? Weight gain during perimenopause isn't inevitable.

Prioritising protein, strength training, quality sleep, stress management and balanced nutrition can help support your hormones, metabolism and body composition.

💚 Your body isn't working against you. It's asking for a new strategy.
