Dr Chin enjoys all aspects of general practice, with particular interests in:

Patients appreciate Dr Chin’s warm, thoughtful approach & her commitment to helping people achieve their best health.

Outside of work, she loves spending time with her family & getting creative with sewing projects. More recently, she’s discovered a love for knitting, so if you’ve got any tips for beginner knitters, pass it on!

Did you know Medicare has a Safety Net that may help you get more money back once your out-of-pocket medical costs reach a certain amount?

This can be especially helpful if you or your family have regular GP visits, specialist appointments, scans, tests, procedures or ongoing health needs.

For 2026, the main Extended Medicare Safety Net thresholds are:

• $861.20 for concession cardholders & families eligible for Family Tax Benefit Part A
• $2,699.10 for general patients & families

Once you reach your relevant threshold, Medicare may pay a higher rebate for some out of hospital services for the rest of the calendar year.

A really important thing to know:

Couples & families need to register with Medicare to combine their medical costs.

This means you may reach the threshold sooner as a family, rather than each person being counted separately. You will still need to register even if everyone is already listed on the same Medicare card.

Please note, our staff are not able to see whether you have reached your Medicare Safety Net threshold. This information is managed by Medicare.

You can check your Medicare Safety Net progress through myGov, the myGov app, or by contacting Medicare directly.

This is worth checking if you or your family have regular medical costs, a quick check could save you money.

For more information, visit Services Australia or log in to your Medicare account through myGov.

Wellness Wednesday!

Today marks the start of Dry July, a month long challenge encouraging people to go alcohol free for July while raising funds for people affected by cancer.

Even if you're not officially taking part, July can be a good time to check in with your alcohol habits.
Cutting back on alcohol may help with sleep, energy, mood, weight management, skin health & overall wellbeing.

A few questions to ask yourself:
• Am I drinking out of habit?
• Do I use alcohol to manage stress?
• Do I feel better on the days I don't drink?
• Would I benefit from cutting back for a while?

You don't need to wait until things feel "bad enough" to speak with your GP. If you're worried about your drinking, want support to cut back, or want to talk through safer options, book an appointment with your doctor.

Please join us in welcoming Alec, a second year medical student from the University of Newcastle, who will be completing a two week placement with us here at FTMC Group from Monday 29th June - Friday 10th July!

Alec considers himself somewhat of an older student, having completed former qualifications in Biomedical Science, Epidemiology & Public Health prior to starting the JMP journey. This will be one of the first clinical placements he has completed outside of a handful of placement days at John Hunter Hospital.

He was born in Manning Base Hospital & grew up in the Wingham/Mount George region, just north-west of Forster-Tuncurry. While he has not yet decided on a specific field of medicine, he is committed to training & working within rural communities. He has found neurology, paediatrics, haematology & endocrinology the most engaging topics so far.

Alec has been focusing more on rural generalist pathways, which allow for a greater mix of specialities & community roles to better educate, screen, prevent & treat community health concerns.

Outside of medicine, Alec enjoys historical modelling, reading about history & engineering, bushwalking with his partner & dog, & fishing with his siblings in the Rowley & Nowendoc rivers.

As part of his placement, Alec may be observing consultations alongside our GPs. If you do not feel comfortable having a medical student present during your consultation, please let our administration team know. Your care will not be affected in any way.

Welcome to FTMC Group, Alec! 👋🏽

A quick & important update for our patients

From Wednesday 1 July 2026, our consultation fees will increase slightly. This is our first fee increase in two years.

We've held our fees steady for as long as we could, but rising costs across staffing, supplies & running the practice mean it's time for a small adjustment. Medicare rebates are also increasing from 1 July, so for most patients the out-of-pocket change will be smaller than the rise itself.

An updated fee schedule will be available on our website from 1 July.

Thank you for continuing to trust our doctors & team to care for you & your family. It's a privilege to look after our community. 🩺

Meet the Team Monday! 👋🏽

This week we’re introducing Dr Ellen Millard, GP Supervisor at FTMC Group.

Unlike many doctors who discover the Great Lakes later in life, Ellen grew up right here in Forster & Gloucester.

After leaving the area to study medicine at the Australian National University, she spent years working in hospitals across Canberra & Sydney, gaining experience in Women’s Health, Mental Health, Surgery & Emergency Medicine.

But eventually, she found her way back home.

Today, Dr Millard cares for patients across the same community she grew up in, building long-term relationships with local families & supporting patients through every stage of life.

She has completed additional postgraduate training in Women’s Health & Counselling, however enjoys all aspects of General Practice.

✨ Dr Ellen Millard had recently reopened her books & is currently accepting new patients.
