We’ve only got 4 public courses left for the year, so now’s a good time to get organised for the rest of 2026 or plan ahead for 2027.

🎃👻 From Irish Samhain to Scottish spooky folklore, Halloween has some seriously creepy history!

Turnip lanterns, bonfires, spirits and tales of things lurking in the darkness… long before Halloween became all about sweets

Meanwhile, our patient seems to have had a run-in with something from the darker side of folklore! 😂🪓🩸

🔥🎃 HALLOWEEN HISTORY: The fire that lit every home!

Long before pumpkins and trick-or-treating, Samhain brought bonfires, disguises and spooky folklore. In parts of Ireland, families relit their home hearths from a communal bonfire, carrying the flame home for protection and good fortune. 🔥

Fast forward to South Australia… with fire ban season just around the corner, there might be a few last-minute bonfires happening! 👀

So enjoy Halloween, keep an eye on fire restrictions, and please don't become our next training casualty! 😂🩸

🎃👻 TWO DAYS UNTIL HALLOWEEN! 💀🩸

In case you haven't worked it out by now… I LOVE HALLOWEEN! 😂🎃

The creepy decorations, the spooky history, the folklore… and apparently collecting enough training casualties to start our own horror movie. 💀

Unfortunately, not everyone in this household shares my enthusiasm. 🙄😂

Their loss. My Halloween content isn't over yet! 👻🩸

🎃💀 Halloween history gets a little personal!

Imagine being sick and this bloke turning up at your door! 😂🐦‍⬛

The famous plague doctor mask was based on the belief that diseases spread through “bad air”, with aromatic herbs and spices stuffed into the beak for protection.

🕯️ Fun family history: My great-grandmother’s first husband died from the plague in Perth, WA.

History is fascinating… and sometimes a little closer to home than you expect! 👻

🎃🩸 Halloween medical history is NOT for the faint-hearted!

Imagine getting shot in the 1500s and having boiling oil poured into your wound because surgeons thought gunpowder was poisonous! 😳🔥

French army surgeon Ambroise Paré helped change things after running out of boiling oil and trying a different dressing instead.

Medical history has some seriously gruesome stories… and thankfully, first aid has come a LONG way since then! 😂

We'll stick to our training manikins and modern first aid equipment, thanks! 👻🩹

🎃💀 WELCOME TO HALLOWEEN WEEK AT NORTHERN RESPONSE TRAINING! 👻🩸

It's officially Halloween week, which means I'm no longer pretending this is just a normal training business. 😂

We've got creepy casualties, questionable medical history, spooky folklore and enough manikin heads to concern the neighbours.

Some people count down to Christmas… I count down to Halloween! 🎃

And for those in our household who aren't quite as enthusiastic… only a few more days to survive. 🤣💀

Let the spooky season begin! 👻

🩹 It's alright, everyone. Even first aid trainers have bad days! 😂

The other day, I managed to cut my own hand on a tourniquet. 🤦‍♀️

Easy fix, right? Just put a Band-Aid on it!

Except… I failed to apply it successfully on the first attempt. 🤣

The class passed while I failed my own practical assessment!

Turns out, you can never let your guard down around first aid equipment… not even when you're the trainer. 😂❤️‍🩹

🐨❤️ When your training venue comes with its own wildlife!

We had a couple of unexpected visitors hanging around in the trees while we were training recently.

You can't get much more Australian than doing a day's work with wild koalas keeping an eye on you! 🇦🇺🌿

Definitely a pretty good view from the office for the day. 😍
