Most hypnotherapists learn a script. I spent 22 years in mental health casework learning what sits underneath one.

That background changes the work. Before training in hypnotherapy, I spent over a decade sitting with people in real distress — understanding what drives an anxious thought, what keeps a habit in place, and what actually helps someone move through it rather than around it. I hold a Master's degree in Mental Health, I'm a qualified counsellor, and I'm 5-PATH® certified.

Hypnotherapy alone can help. Paired with an understanding of the psychology underneath the symptom, it's different work — naming the pattern, addressing what's keeping it there, and building something that lasts past the session.

A swinging pocket watch. Someone clucking like a chicken on command. If that's the picture in your head, it's no wonder hypnotherapy has never felt like something for you.

Clinical hypnosis is nothing like the stage version. You stay awake, aware, and free to stop at any point — it's closer to the focus you feel absorbed in a good book, or driving a familiar route and arriving without remembering the turns. Nobody can make you do, say, or believe anything against your will.

I spent 15 years in mental health casework before training as a hypnotherapist, and I'm 5-PATH® certified through the Banyan Hypnosis Center. Staying in control throughout is the principle every session is built on.

If you've wondered whether this could help with something you're carrying, you're welcome to find out more at hypnoticimpact.org.

3am, wide awake, mind running through the same three worries on a loop. Most people assume this means something is wrong with their sleep. Usually, it means the nervous system hasn't fully switched out of alert mode.
Hypnotherapy works with that part of the mind directly, teaching it the way back to rest instead of adding another relaxation technique on top of the same underlying alertness.

You know it's irrational. You've told yourself that a hundred times. It doesn't help.
One of the most common questions I hear before a first session is whether hypnosis means losing control. It doesn't. You remain fully aware and in control throughout — able to speak, move, and stop whenever you choose. What changes is how deeply relaxed and focused your attention becomes, similar to being absorbed in a good book. If you'd like to find out whether this would suit your situation, you can read more at hypnoticimpact.org.
