What does a “green funeral” actually look like?

Funerals are changing, and there are more ways to make a farewell environmentally conscious while still keeping it personal and meaningful.

From natural burial, shrouds and sustainable coffin choices, cremators that use electricity and biopropane gas to emerging technologies such as terramation (natural organic reduction) and alkaline hydrolysis, a lot is happening in the world of green funerals.

Terramation is a natural process that transforms human remains into nutrient-rich soil. With Geelong-based Austeng helping bring this technology to Australia, it's an especially timely topic. Geelong is also leading the way in cremation technology with Australia's first electric cremator.

WAIT… IT’S GROWN FROM MUSHROOMS?
That was pretty much our reaction too!

The Loop Living Cocoon™ is grown using mycelium, the underground root network of mushrooms and upcycled plant fibres.
And incredibly, it takes just seven days to grow.
It’s certainly been getting people talking since arriving in Australia, plenty of surprise, curiosity and lots of questions!

We love being able to offer families something genuinely different and inspired by nature.
