Referring a client for psychological support is an act of care.

We want to make that process as clear and straightforward as possible for you.

This carousel covers who we see, how to refer, and what your client can expect from us, including our triage-first intake model, where every new client is matched carefully before their first session.

GP and allied health enquiries are always welcome.

Taking the first step toward support can feel like the hardest part.

We want to make it as easy as possible.

Every new client at The Self Centre begins with a complimentary 15-minute consultation with Lyndsay, our Principal Psychologist. It’s a calm, confidential conversation, a chance to understand what you’re looking for and find the right psychologist for you.

No commitment required. Just a conversation.

Trauma work takes courage.

It also takes the right environment. The right pace. A clinician who understands the complexity of what you’re carrying.

At The Self Centre, our psychologists are trained in EMDR, somatic, and attachment-focused approaches. Each person’s path through trauma is different, and we work carefully to honour that.

If you’ve been thinking about taking this step, we’re here.

Try this instead:

Instead of asking:
“How do I stop this?”

You might try asking:
“What is my mind trying to do right now?”

That small shift can move you
from resisting the experience
to understanding it.

Why your brain jumps to worst-case

Your brain isn’t always predicting what’s likely.

Often, it’s trying to reduce uncertainty as quickly as possible.

Worst-case scenarios can feel convincing, not because they’re true, but because they offer a sense of certainty.

👉 Learn how to build tolerance for uncertainty

What actually works for anxiety

Trying to stop or control thoughts
often keeps people feeling stuck.

What tends to help is learning how to respond differently
to what shows up internally.

This is where we often begin to see meaningful change.

👉 Book a consult and be matched with the right psychologist

Anxiety isn’t just fear.

It can be your mind trying to anticipate what might happen next.

Trying to create certainty.
Trying to keep you safe.

👉 Book a 15-min consult to better understand your anxiety

AI is very good mirror in a contained conversation.

It has no memory of you tomorrow. It can’t hold you across time. It can’t notice what you’re not saying by reading your face or your body. It can’t make a judgment call in a moment of clinical risk.

Psychologists bring:
• A physical presence
• A therapeutic relationship built over time
• Clinical judgment that holds risk, complexity, and nuance simultaneously
• Our own lived experience with this population which after today you understand differently
• The ability to sit with someone in their hardest moments
• Ethical and professional accountability

Most people come to therapy wanting anxiety gone.

And that’s completely understandable, it’s exhausting to carry.

But here’s what we actually work toward:
Not the absence of anxious thoughts.
A different relationship with them.

Anxiety can be present without being in charge.

That’s where things start to shift.

💬 What would change if anxiety no longer drove your decisions?

Your mind is trying to protect you

Your mind isn’t trying to work against you.

In many cases, it’s trying to protect you… just with a level of intensity that can feel overwhelming.

When we begin to understand this, the relationship with anxiety can start to shift.
