Can you calm your nervous system and find your flow?

On the weekend whilst I was walking in the wind and rain, I observed the struggle of moving against the powerful energy pushing against me. It struck me as a profound metaphor for life itself – how often we feel we're pushing against the wind, encountering constant resistance in our chosen paths.

Yet, as I rounded the bend and walked with the wind, a profound sense of ease enveloped me, guiding me in the direction of least resistance.

This experience begs the question: Are there moments in your day where you can consciously choose to flow with more calm and ease?

Perhaps it's a minute to pause and breathe, calming an anxious mind. Or cooking and savoring a nourishing, warming broth to soothe an inflamed digestive system.

Maybe it's listening to a guided meditation with dimmed lights, easing your way into a peaceful slumber tonight.

Could it be receiving a spinal adjustment to restore mobility and energetic flow to a stagnant nervous system?

There are countless opportunities to find your flow. What small, intentional step can you take this coming week to embrace more calm and ease in your world?

**What Is Wholefood? The Labelling Paradox in Our Diet**

It’s truly bizarre that natural, unprocessed foods — free from chemicals, genetic modification, or excessive processing — often require special labels like “health food,” “grass-fed,” or “organic.”

Meanwhile, highly processed products, laden with unidentifiable ingredients such as preservatives, emulsifiers, colours, and sweeteners, often escape the same level of scrutiny.

I believe foods in this latter category should be extremely limited in our diets. Unfortunately, in the modern Western diet, and with our increasingly time-constrained lives, this isn’t always the case. These ultra-processed items have become a disturbingly normal part of our daily intake.

Recent analysis by researchers from the Universities of Melbourne, Sydney, and NSW reveals a stark reality: up to 42% of Australians’ average energy intake comes from ultra-processed foods (UPFs). These are defined as foods made from several ingredients, including substances not typically used in home cooking, such as artificial flavours, additives, and preservatives.

Navigating supermarket aisles can be tricky when processed food is so abundantly available. However, when it comes to the health of you and your family, it’s time to take a closer look at the ingredient labels on your purchases.

Thinking twice before buying can make a significant difference — your body will undoubtedly thank you for it in the long run!

Seasonal Recipe

The end of the summer vegetable season is truly over and as the last of my home grown tomatoes have sat ripening beautifully on the window sill I thought that with the cold and wetter weather this week that it would be fitting to make soup!! I would like to say a big shout out to our lovely practice member Judy who gifted me the perfect purple garlic in the photo. Here is a recipe Roast Tomato, Garlic and Basil soup. Maybe serve with a slice of sourdough bread ( even better if you make your own! ). Enjoy!!

What glorious weather we've been blessed with here in Victoria! ☀️ Stepping outside to soak up the Autumn sun feels incredibly nourishing—perhaps our bodies are instinctively enjoying that Vitamin D hit before winter truly sets in. This beautiful weather is an invitation to move our bodies outdoors.

Whether it's a mindful hike through the forest, a brisk walk, or a run in the park during your lunch break, the most profound truth is this: consistent movement is key. It's not just about burning calories; it's about honoring your body's innate design to move, to adapt, and to thrive. Every step, every breath in nature, fuels your nervous system and enhances your overall vitality. What small step can you take today to bring more movement into your life and connect with this beautiful season?

Autumn has truly arrived, not by a date on the calendar, but by nature's undeniable cues. This past weekend brought the crisp kiss of frosty mornings and the gentle patter of rain. It's a profound shift, especially here in Victoria, where the scorched earth from the recent fires now feels like a distant memory, giving way to vibrant green grass and the quiet emergence of fungi popping up through the damp, fertile soil.

This observation leads me to reflect on the wisdom of our Indigenous ancestors. They understood seasons not as fixed dates, but as dynamic cycles defined by nature's subtle shifts—the life cycles of flora and fauna, the whispers of the wind, and the celestial dance of stars like the Southern Cross. Some cultural groups identified up to 13 localized seasons, a testament to their deep connection and attunement to the land.

I deeply resonate with this practice of pausing, observing nature, and connecting into her rhythms. It's a powerful reminder that we, too, need to tune into the seasons within our own bodies. What does Autumn truly invite us to do? Perhaps it's a gentle nudge to slow down a little, especially on those wet, windy days. Maybe it's choosing a restorative yoga session over an intense run, savoring a nourishing slow-cooked meal instead of a cold salad, or sipping a warm herbal tea fresh from the garden rather than a chilled juice.
This season, let's honor the wisdom of our ancestors and listen closely to the cues nature provides, and in turn maybe pause for a moment and hear the wisdom our own bodies offer.
