A flat tyre gets your attention.

The nail caused it.

The same principle can apply in the body.

Where we notice pain isn't always where the story begins.

Bowen Therapy encourages us to look beyond the obvious and appreciate the body as an interconnected whole.

Because sometimes understanding why something is happening is just as important as knowing where it hurts.

If only our bodies came with a battery percentage. 🔋

Some days leave us feeling fully charged.

Others... not so much.

Some people might not think about Bowen Therapy until they're running on empty.

But it doesn't have to be that way.

Looking after your body before your battery is critically low is a habit worth building.

Try Bowen. A new way to help our stressed systems. Don’t expect a massage, it is a gentle process that works on the central nervous system (CNS) dropping you into ‘rest and digest’, out of ‘fight and flight’.

Ever feel like your body is stuck in traffic?

When the nervous system is under stress, it can become a little like a gridlocked highway.

Everything is still moving... just not very efficiently.

The instinct is often to push harder, stretch more, do more, force more.

But sometimes that only adds to the congestion.

Bowen Therapy takes a different approach.

Gentle, precise moves and intentional pauses give the body an opportunity to soften, reorganise and respond in its own way.
Because not every problem needs more pushing.

Sometimes it just needs the right conditions for things to flow again.

That's one of the key principles you'll learn as a Bowen Therapist: understanding when less can achieve more.

A tight hip can strain the lower back.

A stiff neck can cause jaw pain.

Your body is a network — and Bowen Therapy considers the whole map, not just the trouble spot.

Unhealthy diets are by far our greatest risk factor for disease and death. However, physical activity is important for our health and longevity and should be encouraged as part of an overall healthy lifestyle.

Population studies have found a correlation between regular aerobic exercise and decreased risk of at least 35 different diseases, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and cancer.

Physical activity can help lower inflammation, as well as decrease DNA damage and facilitate DNA repair. A meta-analysis of cohort studies of middle-aged and older individuals, with follow-ups as long as 20 years, found that exercising adults were more likely to age successfully than sedentary individuals.

Exercise may also improve cognition, enhance mood, and generally improve quality of life. The evidence supporting the overall health benefits of physical activity are overwhelming.

Exercise is such powerful medicine that researchers at Stanford and the London School found that exercise may work as well as drugs for patients with coronary heart disease, heart failure, and pre-diabetes––and even better than some medications for stroke.

Just like any medicine, though, might exercise have an upper limit for benefitting our health and longevity? I cover that in the video “How Much Exercise Is Too Much?” at https://see.nf/3ZM4H6h

Walking is among the safest of physical activities, averaging only about one injury per thousand hours. So if you are just getting started with lifestyle changes, consider walking. For even more health benefits, take a walk in a wooded park for the added benefits of boosting your anticancer immunity.

Always consult your doctor before making any changes to your medication or exercise routine.

When the IT band becomes adhered to the vastus lateralis, this can create a loss of support to the pelvis, leading to low back pain. Most of us are familiar with traditional foam rolling for the IT band. With a minor modification, it can work well for addressing this adhesion. Here's a video of ITB rolling. https://www.rfr.bz/fb81f02 To modify it for our purposes, first, go much slower. Find tender/stiff spots and hold there until they soften. Second, foam rollers can be too hard for this. Try a tennis ball or a pool noodle. Third, only roll proximally (toward the hip). And lastly, when you are holding on a spot, alternately bend and straighten the leg. Bending your knee pulls the quad distally and rolling proximally helps create differential motion between the quad and the ITB.

Telomeres cap the ends of our chromosomes to keep our DNA from fraying, like the plastic tips on the ends of our shoelaces. Every time our cells divide, a bit of the telomere is lost, and once they get too short, the cell can die. That’s why telomeres are sometimes called the molecular clock of cells. Every year they get shorter and shorter, kind of like life’s fuse.

People eating more anti-inflammatory diets tend to have longer telomeres, and the greater the anti-inflammatory potential of the diet over time, the greater the potential to significantly slow down the rate of telomere shortening. Those with the most pro-inflammatory diets had almost twice the risk of accelerated telomere shortening.

The most pro-inflammatory food component is saturated fat, which is found in meat, dairy, eggs, and junk, along with cholesterol, trans fat, and other pro-inflammatory food components.

Fiber is the most anti-inflammatory food component. It appears that an increase of just 10 grams of ber per 1,000 calories would equate to four fewer years of cellular aging. Now, of course, diets high in ber and diets with signicant amounts of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains go hand in hand. So, fiber just may be a marker of eating a lot of whole, healthy plant foods.
In How Not to Age, I cover every possible angle for developing the optimal diet and lifestyle for the longest, healthiest lifespan based on the best available balance of evidence.
