DID YOU KNOW? 🧠
Intellectual disability does not mean inability. Every person has their own strengths, abilities and way of learning.
Some people may learn best through pictures or demonstrations, while others may need extra time, clear language, repetition or step-by-step support.
With the right support, people with intellectual disability can:
πŸ’œ Learn new skills at their own pace
πŸ’œ Make choices and express their preferences
πŸ’œ Build meaningful relationships
πŸ’œ Participate in their community
πŸ’œ Work towards goals that are important to them
At Jema Support Services, we focus on each person’s strengths, choices and individual goals. We listen, communicate clearly and provide support in a way that helps every person feel confident, respected and included.
Different ways of learning. Endless possibilities. πŸ’œ

πŸ’œ Did You Know?

Hydration matters more than you think.

When we think about staying healthy, drinking enough water is often one of the simplest things we can doβ€”but it's also one of the easiest things to overlook.

For many people living with disability, staying hydrated can sometimes be more challenging. Certain medications, health conditions, communication difficulties or reduced mobility can all increase the risk of dehydration.

Even mild dehydration can affect how we feel and function. It may contribute to tiredness, headaches, dizziness, reduced concentration, constipation and changes in mood.

The good news is that small, consistent habits can make a big difference.

πŸ’§ Keeping a water bottle within easy reach.
πŸ’§ Offering drinks regularly throughout the day.
πŸ’§ Including water-rich foods such as fruit and vegetables.
πŸ’§ Making hydration part of everyday routines.

At Jema Support Services, we know that everyone's needs are different.

Supporting good hydration isn't about asking someone to drink more waterβ€”it's about understanding the person, recognising what works for them, and providing encouragement in a way that respects their choices and independence.

Because sometimes, the smallest habits can have the biggest impact on health and wellbeing. πŸ’œ

πŸ’¬ What's your favourite way to stay
hydrated?

Do you prefer plain water, sparkling water, herbal tea or adding fresh fruit to your drink?

We'd love to hear your ideas in the comments!

πŸ’œ Did You Know?
Dementia is more than just memory loss.

Dementia can affect a person’s communication, confidence, emotions, decision-making and ability to manage everyday tasks. It can also affect younger people, not only the elderly.
But behind every diagnosis is still a person with their own story, strengths, preferences and need to feel understood.

Sometimes the greatest support we can offer is simple:
πŸ’œ Be patient
πŸ’œ Give the person time to respond
πŸ’œ Use calm, clear communication
πŸ’œ Focus on what they can do
πŸ’œ Include them in decisions
πŸ’œ Treat them with kindness and respect

At Jema Support Services, we believe in seeing the person first.

With understanding, compassion and the right support, people living with dementia can continue to feel safe, valued, connected and included in their community.

Because a diagnosis may change some things β€” but it never changes a person’s right to dignity, respect and meaningful connection. πŸ’œ

πŸ’œ Friday's "Know Your Rights" with Jema Support Services

This Week's Right: You have the right to change providers.

One of the most important principles of the NDIS is choice and control. That means your supports should work for youβ€”not the other way around.

If you feel your current provider isn't meeting your needs, your goals have changed, or you'd simply like to explore a provider that's a better fit, you have the right to make that choice.

Changing providers doesn't mean you've done something wrong, and it doesn't have to be a difficult conversation. Sometimes, finding the right provider is simply part of your NDIS journey.

Remember:
πŸ’œ You deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.
πŸ’œ You deserve supports that align with your goals.
πŸ’œ You deserve to feel heard and valued.
πŸ’œ You have the right to choose who supports you.

If you're unsure where to start, your Support Coordinator, Plan Manager or an independent advocate can help you understand your options and guide you through the process.

At Jema Support Services, we believe informed participants make empowered choices. Whether you choose us or another provider, what matters most is that you receive supports that help you live the life you choose.

Because at the end of the day...

It's your plan.
Your supports.
Your choice. πŸ’œ

πŸ’¬ Have you ever changed providers or considered making a change?

You don't need to share your personal experience, but we'd love to know what qualities you think make a great support provider. Your thoughts might help someone else who is trying to make the right choice.
