β›‘ It’s First Aid Friday! β›‘

Todays Topic: Arrhythmia πŸ«€

It's World Heart Rhythm Week, an annual campaign designed to improve education and understanding around heart rhythm disorders, otherwise know as 'arrhythmias.'

Resulting when the heart beats too fast, too slow or in an inconsistent manner - with no real underlying reason or explanation (remember, it's normal for your heart rate to change during times of rest, exercise, high emotions or stress πŸ˜‰) - symptoms of arrhythmia include a fluttering or pounding sensation in the chest, dizziness or shortness of breath.

Generally caused by existing heart damage, stress, high blood pressure, smoking or over use of stimulants, in very severe cases they can lead to heart failure or cardiac arrest - so if you are concerned by symptoms in any way, be sure to book a check up with your local GP as soon as you can πŸ‘¨β€βš•οΈ

With medication, medical procedures or simple lifestyle changes used to treat arrhythmias, they can generally be managed and monitored with no longer term impacts πŸ’Š

Of course prevention is always better than treatment so be sure to take the best care of your heart possible by maintaining a healthy balanced diet and weight, undertaking regular physical exercise and staying on top of your regular heart health checks. Your heart will love you for it! 🫢

Earlier this year, trainer Fiona and Compliance Officer Janet were lucky enough to attend an ASQA workshop. ASQA - which stands for 'Australian Skills Quality Authority' are the governing body responsible for ensuring that all Registered Training Organisations are delivering their courses and content in a way which meets industry standards and required guidelines πŸ‘¨β€πŸ«

As a small business, we're incredibly proud to have been providing Nationally Recognised Training - in line with ASQA guidelines - for over 2️⃣0️⃣ years now. We're big believers in the notion that if you're going to do something, then do it right - especially when it comes to delivering training which may one day help save a life! β›‘πŸ™Œ

The face-to-face workshop provided practical insights on how to maintain compliance with the Standards. Or in simple terms, how to continue delivering the highest quality courses to all of our attendees, a responsibility we take VERY seriously! 😊

With all players proudly donning a pair of 'Shades of Pink Socks,' the round is designed to not just brighten the field and help increase awareness around breast cancer, but also raise vital funds for the Eastern Health Breast Cancer Centre at Maroondah Hospital 🧦🫢

β›‘ It's First Aid Friday! β›‘

Today's Topic: Triaging πŸ”’

Picture this: You're the First Responser at an emergency situation with mutiple casualties. Some are screaming in pain, others are moaning quietly and one is silent with what looks to be critical injuries.

Who do you attend to first when it comes to providing help? β›‘

The term 'triaging' describes the process of organising casualties into an order of receiving care. It is a dynamic process which can change several times over the course of responding, as the condition of casualties improve or worsen, or further help arrives.

The aim of triaging is to provide medical assistance in the most effective manner, to provide the greatest benefit πŸ™Œ

When triaging, there are 4️⃣ key categories which casualties will roughly fall into: Minor, Urgent, Critical and Deceased.

Generally speaking, critical casualties should be attended to first as their injuries are likely to be more severe or life threatening. If there are multiple Minor casualties, they may even be able to assist one another πŸ‘₯

By taking a moment throughout your First Responder efforts to triage casualties accordingly, you'll be able to deliver the best level of care to those who need it most 🫢

A big congratulations and well done to one of our own, Revive2Survive trainer Luke β›‘πŸ™Œ

Recently commended for providing life saving Emergency Medical Response (EMR), Luke - alongside members of his Fire Station, 92 Cranbourne - responded to a complex multi-casualty motor vehicle accident last year.

With seven patients involved - some of which were children - five of these met major trauma criteria.

Working seamlessly alongside Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police, Luke and his team were able to provide rapid patient care and emergency response management, which included bleeding control, triage and assisting with the treatment and transport of critically injured patients.

With all involved now recovering well, it was a great display of team work, bravery - and of course, the importance of knowing life saving First Aid skills!

To all involved - including Luke - thank you for the incredible work you do in our communities each and every day and for the role you played in ensuring all seven casualties made it home safely to their families. We couldn't be prouder of you! πŸ₯°
