β Itβs First Aid Friday! β
Todays Topic: Arrhythmia π«
It's World Heart Rhythm Week, an annual campaign designed to improve education and understanding around heart rhythm disorders, otherwise know as 'arrhythmias.'
Resulting when the heart beats too fast, too slow or in an inconsistent manner - with no real underlying reason or explanation (remember, it's normal for your heart rate to change during times of rest, exercise, high emotions or stress π) - symptoms of arrhythmia include a fluttering or pounding sensation in the chest, dizziness or shortness of breath.
Generally caused by existing heart damage, stress, high blood pressure, smoking or over use of stimulants, in very severe cases they can lead to heart failure or cardiac arrest - so if you are concerned by symptoms in any way, be sure to book a check up with your local GP as soon as you can π¨ββοΈ
With medication, medical procedures or simple lifestyle changes used to treat arrhythmias, they can generally be managed and monitored with no longer term impacts π
Of course prevention is always better than treatment so be sure to take the best care of your heart possible by maintaining a healthy balanced diet and weight, undertaking regular physical exercise and staying on top of your regular heart health checks. Your heart will love you for it! π«Ά
