Contrary to popular belief, there are 256 shades of grey!

The dynamic range on your ultrasound machine determines how many of these shades of grey you see in the image.

A higher range will display more shades of grey, giving the image a "smoother" appearance. A narrower range will display fewer shades of grey, giving a higher contrast image.

Echocardiography and musculoskeletal ultrasound require a lower dynamic range, whereas abdominal imaging requires a higher range.

Why? Well, when scanning the heart for example, you just need to see blood vs. valves (black vs. white), and emphasis is on having a high temporal resolution and maximising Doppler capability.

Meanwhile, when scanning the abdomen, you need to see subtle variations in soft tissue densities, and so you to see more shades of grey. Too high a range will "smooth" the image too much, reducing diagnostic information. ⠀

As with all aspects of ultrasound, finding the right balance with the dynamic range is the key to getting the best diagnostic information.

Best of BCF | The P8-2s Phased Array from Mindray 🫀
If the C11-3s is our all-rounder, the P8-2s is its cardiac equivalent. It’s the workhorse of our cardiac probes.

Its small footprint fits neatly between ribs, making it easy to get clear cardiac views.

It’s built for small to medium cats and dogs, which makes it the go-to for most of our clients.

Its mixed frequency range gives you a good balance of depth and detail for everyday echo. Need a higher frequency? Ask us about the P10-4s.

It’s compatible with our Vetus E7 Echo and M11 Echo systems, also from Mindray.

Interested in a quote? Send us a message and we’ll be in touch.

BEST OF BCF | L13-3Ns linear array from Mindray 🐾

Linear probes create detailed, high-res images of superficial structures.

For this reason small animal vets like to use a linear for feline abso exams, rather than the C11-3s microconvex.

That also makes them a popular option for equine vets who run tendon or MSK exams.

The Vetus E7 and Vetus EQ create highly-detailed images with the L13-3Ns probe.

If you’re looking to upgrade, but don’t know where to start, get in touch with us today.

Best of BCF | The C11-3s Microconvex 🐾

If we had to pick one probe that most of our clients reach for day in, day out, it’s this one.

The C11-3s is our most popular probe for good reason. It’s a true all-rounder that handles a wide range of species and patient sizes without fuss.

It’s a great fit if most of your scanning is:
🔹 AFAST / TFAST
🔹 Abdominal
🔹 Basic cardiac

It’s compatible with our two popular small animal systems, Vetus E7 and M11, from Mindray.

It also fits our custom-designed OPU probe holder for o**m pickup in equine work, compatible with the Vetus EQ.

Not sure if it’s the right probe for your caseload? Send us a message and we’ll talk it through.

A glorious Friday spent at Willinga Park Vet Hospital for their CPD event for equine veterinarians.

We loved learning from the specialists in the field, connecting with equine vets, and of course, seeing the beautiful horses!

Thank you for the opportunity to be a sponsor representative.
