Physio takes on motocross đŸïž

A little QMP Moto Day through Dean’s eyes — from home, to coffee, to the track, to getting the bike out and doing what he loves.

Dean still rides most weekends and races when he can, not just for fun, but because it helps him understand what motocross riders actually go through on the bike.

The speed, the load, the fatigue, the crashes, the recovery — it all matters when you’re coaching athletes who do this for a living.

It’s one thing to talk performance.
It’s another thing to feel it firsthand.

Halfway through the moto
 and your forearms are COOKED?

Grip starts disappearing.
Hands feel heavy.
You’re holding on tighter.
And instead of riding the bike

You’re fighting it.
Yep. Arm pump. đŸ˜€

But here’s the question:
Do you actually know WHY it happens?
Because simply smashing more grip-strength exercises isn’t necessarily the answer.
There’s more going on when your forearms start blowing up under the demands of riding.
And if you understand WHY it happens, you’ve got a much better chance of doing something useful about it.

We break it down in this week’s blog.

Feeling wobbly when you walk?

Every step you take asks your body to briefly balance on one leg — so if your feet, ankles, calves, knees, hips or core aren’t feeling strong and steady, walking can start to feel less confident.
Try this balance session with Renae:
Slow single-leg calf raises
Wall sit
Split squat
Supported single-leg balance

Start small, build gradually, and focus on control before making it harder.
You might be surprised how quickly your walking balance can improve when you train the right areas consistently.

Save this or share it with someone who needs a good balance session.

Junior motocross riders — your performance isn’t only built on the bike.
Off-bike training helps build the strength, balance, control and coordination you need to feel more stable, powerful and confident when you ride.

Try one round of these before your next ride:
Single-leg hip hinges for hamstrings, glutes and hip drive
Slow calf raises for ankle strength on the pegs
Single-leg squats for hip, knee and core control
Tightrope walks with nose taps for balance and coordination

Keep the movements slow, controlled and clean — no rushing, no bouncing, no cheating the reps.

Save this for your next off-bike training session.

Shoulder pain isn’t always “just tightness.”
It could be your rotator cuff, shoulder joint, neck, posture, training load, or how your body is moving day to day.
The mistake most people make?
They keep guessing, stretching, resting, or pushing through it without knowing what’s actually causing the problem.
If your shoulder is stopping you from lifting, training, sleeping, working, or doing normal daily things comfortably, it’s worth getting it checked.
At Fighting Fit Physiotherapy, we help you understand what’s going on, rebuild strength, and get back to moving with confidence.

Chris thought back pain was just going to be part of his future.

After 21 years in the Army, a few surgeries, and ongoing lower back pain, he had started to accept that daily life would just feel limited.
But through testing, range of movement work, stability training, strengthening, and a clear plan both in the clinic and gym, things started to change.
More mobility.
More strength.
More confidence.
Daily activities with heavily reduced pain.

Chris’ story is a reminder that pain doesn’t have to be something you just put up with forever. đŸ’ȘđŸ»
Back pain shouldn’t feel like your future.

A day on the green for a cause that matters. â›łïž
Had an awesome time at the Legacy Through LIVIN Golf Day last August 7, 2026 — golf, laughs, good people, a few drinks, tattoos, golf cart rides and plenty of connection along the way. đŸŒđŸ»
Proud to support a day that brings people together and helps keep the conversation around mental health moving forward. đŸ‘đŸ»
Because it ain’t weak to speak. đŸ’ȘđŸ»

Pelvis, hips or lower back feeling tight?
Whether it’s from sitting, training, stress, your cycle, or just feeling stiff through the day, gentle movement can help your body ease tension and get moving again.

Try these three simple moves with Kar:
Child’s pose rocks to relax the lower back
90/90 hip and groin opener to gently move through the hips
Lat stretch with slow breathing to open through the side body and back

Keep it gentle, breathe slowly, and only move within a comfortable range.

Save this for the next time your hips, pelvis or lower back feel tight.

If tightness, pelvic discomfort or lower back pain keeps coming back, book in with our women’s health physio team and get it assessed properly.

“Yep
 sounds like sciatica.”
But does it? 👀
Pain in your buttock, hip or down your leg gets labelled sciatica ALL THE TIME.

The problem?
👉 Not all leg pain is sciatica.
And if you’re treating the wrong problem, don’t be surprised when:
❌ Stretching doesn’t fix it
❌ Rest only helps temporarily
❌ The pain keeps coming back
❌ Random “sciatica exercises” get you nowhere

Different causes can create VERY similar symptoms.
And different causes need different solutions.

So before you diagnose yourself from Google and start another “5 best exercises for sciatica” routine

Find out what you’re actually dealing with.

We explain the difference in this week’s blog.
👉 Head to our website and give it a read.
