Every connection has a story. And every story shared becomes part of something bigger.

💬 “We all carry things, some heavier than others, but how long can we carry them without the help of family, friends, a sister or brother…”

Thank you, Garra, for sharing this reflection and adding your voice to .

As we approach ***dePreventionDay on September 10, we’re reflecting on the words, moments and stories people around the world have shared.

Together, they’re becoming a story worth hearing.

How far can one connection travel?

For Thomas O’Hare, Programme Manager at The Mission to Seafarers, connection means helping others turn su***de alertness into action.

Through relationships, collaboration and a shared commitment to safer communities, 12 more safeTALK Trainers are now part of su***de-safer communities in Lithuania, Ukraine and Panama. Their reach has the potential to extend to thousands of maritime cadets and support safer, more connected leadership aboard ships around the world.

That is in action.

One connection becomes training.
Training becomes confidence.
Confidence moves into communities.

Thomas, thank you to you and your partners for carrying this work into maritime communities around the world.

Over the past four weeks, people around the world have shared what connection means to them.

A word. A memory. A moment. A way of showing up for someone else.

Now, as we approach ***dePreventionDay, we’re bringing it back to the question at the heart of :

💬 “Every connection matters because...”

Because a smile can shift a moment.
Because a conversation can help someone feel seen.
Because a check-in can remind someone they’re not alone.
Because listening can make space for someone to feel supported.

This week, we invite you to finish the sentence in your own way.

One moment of connection can carry the stories of many more.

After years of co-training ASIST workshops together, Karen Simba, LivingWorks Regional Training and Delivery Manager, recently reconnected with Shawna Percy for a special moment in Guelph, Ontario - presenting Shawna with her ASIST Gold Award.

The award recognises an incredible milestone: 104 LivingWorks ASIST workshops delivered to more than 1,930 Helpers.

That’s more than a number. It represents thousands of opportunities for people to use their skills to recognise someone who may be thinking about su***de, reach in, and help keep them safe for now.

Congratulations, Shawna, on this well-deserved recognition and your dedication to building su***de-safer communities. And thank you, Karen, for sharing a moment that so meaningfully brings to life. đź’™

Connection doesn’t always need a big moment. Sometimes, it’s found in the ordinary ones.

Our colleague Ricky Nguyen shared this reflection for , reminding us what being fully present with the people who matter can look like.

A meal together. A walk. A meaningful conversation. Shared laughter. Simply being there.

Ricky’s reflection invites us to notice the everyday moments that help us listen, understand and stay connected to one another.

This week, we’re asking:

đź’¬What is a moment of connection that has stayed with you?

When it comes to ***dePrevention, connection is powerful.

Evidence continues to show that meaningful social connections support wellbeing and help protect against isolation. From a brief conversation with a stranger to a trusted relationship or a community support network, connection can remind people they are not alone.

Creating su***de-safer communities takes all of us. It requires trained Helpers, supportive environments, strong community partnerships and access to care.

Together, these connections create pathways to hope, support and safety.
