Darwin Homebirth Group

Darwin Homebirth Group You don't have to have had a homebirth to join in - it's about our philosophy.

The Darwin Homebirth Group is a volunteer run collective of parents who share the philosophy that pregnancy, labor and birth are normal, natural family centered events. The Darwin Home Birth Group supports birth choices for all women, home birth and one to one midwifery care being some of those choices.

What a fabulous morning connecting with like-minded parents, midwives and friends under the sprawling shade of the old mango tree at the Motherhood.

The kids loved the fruit juice slushies, delighted at watching the fresh popcorn popping away and waited eagerly to have their faces painted by the multi-taltended mumma extraordinaire, Rudo 💗 Old friends, and new, came together to celebrate birth, homebirth and the wonder that comes from supporting families to birth where they feel most grounded, connected and safe, wherever that may be.

Thank you to Laura from .to.heal for guiding us through a refreshing pilates flow while the kids played around us.

We even had a homebirth mother and midwife reconnect after 28 years! (The mandatory selfie is included in the reel). They relished in remembering that day in 1998.

Birth changes us forever. This is why we exist.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our cause over the last four and a half decades.

Today, we are celebrating our 45th birthday 🎈

Here's to all the families, birth workers and friends who have supported homebirth over that time, and in doing so, protected the right to choose where birth unfolds. Thank you for being here and supporting our cause.

Birth pools have thankfully modernised in that time, but the essence of homebirth and our fabulous community is still the same 💛

Fun fact: the Darwin Homebirth Group existed even earlier than this but first became an incorporated association on 12/02/1981. We choose to gather our community to celebrate now in conjunction with International Homebirth Day.

Please join us on the shady Motherhood lawns today (Sunday 31st) from 9:30am for a free pilates flow, activities for the kids and a shared picnic. Eveeyone is welcome, whether you have birthed at home or support the homebirth ethos and community. The whole family is welcome 🙏

We had a humid but lovely morning at De La Plage with a few bubs and older siblings (not all pictured).

Our next meet up will be Sunday April 26 for some water play in the botanic gardens playground. Bring the family along!

Did you know the Darwin Homebirth Group has been completely volunteer-run since the 1980s?

And those volunteers are superstars who have juggled babies in arms and on laps, along with work and other commitments. All while showing up with smiles on their sleep deprived faces.

We are so grateful 💛

Last year, we took the bold step to decrease the workload on our volunteer families. Now we only require volunteers to contribute 2 hours of their time per year - that's it.

If you are able to assist us so the group can keep running, we'd love to hear from you.

The Darwin Homebirth Group can't exist without volunteers.
Can you spare 2 hours a year to help?

What fun we had yesterday at our first meet up for the year! Morning tea in the refreshing cool cafe, a quick wander in the museum and saying hi to the turtles and fish.

Join us on the last Sunday of the month from 9:30-11:30. Locations change each month, so keep an eye out for the event on Facebook.
