I know, I know... I sound like a broken record sometimes talking about tongue posture! 😅👅
But honestly, I see it every single week. 💛
One of the most important jobs a baby’s tongue isn’t just feeding. 🍼
It’s resting suctioned up against the palate.
Why? 🤔
Because the tongue is nature’s orthodontic appliance. 🌱
When the tongue rests up on the palate, it helps support healthy jaw growth, encourages the palate to develop wider, supports nasal breathing, and creates more room for the airway. 👃✨
When the tongue sits low in the mouth instead, we can sometimes see a narrower palate, crowded teeth, mouth breathing, and less space available for the tongue and airway as children grow. 🦷
Of course, every child is different and there is never one single cause. Genetics, allergies, airway health, oral habits, feeding challenges, and overall development all play a role too. 🌿
But tongue posture is one of those foundational pieces that often gets overlooked.
This video is such a great visual reminder of why we look beyond the teeth and why I spend so much time talking about oral function, airway, and whole-child development. 💫
A huge thank you to who shared this gem. It explains in seconds what can take me several appointments to describe! 🙏
What happens in those tiny mouths can have a big impact on how little humans breathe, sleep, grow, and thrive. ❤️
