Congratulations to Dr Natalie Dixon and the team at our Subiaco laboratory in WA on achieving accreditation by the ICDP-UEMS as an International Training Centre in Dermatopathology.

This prestigious international accreditation recognises the high standard of expertise within our dermatopathology team and their contribution to advancing specialist training and education in the field. It also reflects their commitment to developing the next generation of dermatopathologists.

Clinicians across Western Australia, South Australia and our broader Clinical Labs network will benefit from the specialist dermatopathology expertise provided by our Subiaco team. Our dermatopathologists are also available to discuss complex patient cases with referring clinicians, supporting accurate diagnosis and patient care.

Meet the Team | Emma – Collections Area Manager, Regional WA

After starting her career as a phlebotomist (blood collector) in Bunbury 12 years ago, Emma progressed into a leadership role and has spent the past four years as a Collections Area Manager, supporting teams across regional Western Australia, from Geraldton to Bunbury. Most recently, Emma spent a month covering the Operations Manager role in Perth, further expanding her leadership experience.

In her role as a Collections Area Manager, Emma manages a team of collectors and couriers and plays an important role in establishing new collection centres across the region. Having worked in a collection centre alongside a regional lab, Emma has gained valuable insight into pathology workflows. She says one of the biggest differences between regional and metro healthcare is ensuring patient samples are transported efficiently across vast distances for testing and reporting.

For Emma, the most rewarding part of working in regional healthcare is the connection with the local community. Over the years, she has built strong relationships with many patients, following their healthcare journeys and seeing them through treatment and recovery.

Emma's career path at Clinical Labs is a great example of how passion, dedication and a willingness to learn can lead to new opportunities.

Developed by Australian clinicians, the user-friendly report includes guidance for 174 medications across depression, anxiety, ADHD and many other mental health and clinical conditions.

Every day, our Anatomical Pathologist, Associate Professor Marissa Muller, diagnoses bowel cancer and sees firsthand the impact this disease has on patients and their families.

For Marissa, this cause is also deeply personal. Having lost her mother-in-law to bowel cancer, she understands the importance of raising awareness, supporting research and encouraging early detection.

This year, Marissa is taking on the Sydney Marathon to raise funds for Bowel Cancer Australia, helping to support vital research, education and advocacy for those affected by bowel cancer.

Every kilometre she runs represents hope for a future where fewer people hear the words, "You have bowel cancer."

We're incredibly proud to support Marissa as she combines her passion for patient care with a commitment to making a difference beyond the laboratory.

We were proud to be at South Fremantle Football Oval today supporting a fantastic community initiative with MediTests, The Hospital Research Foundation Group and Country Football WA, providing free PSA (prostate cancer) blood testing to help promote the importance of early detection.

A big thank you to James and Nick from MediTests for the opportunity to be involved in such a worthwhile event.

We're also incredibly grateful to our wonderful collectors, Marilyn and Jess, who represented us today with their professionalism and dedication to the community.

Early detection saves lives, and we're honoured to play a part in making these important health checks more accessible to the community.

This NAIDOC Week, Clinical Labs proudly celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Since launching our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in 2025, we have continued to strengthen relationships, build understanding and create opportunities to embed First Nations perspectives across our organisation.

As we recognise the 2026 NAIDOC Week theme, 50 Years of Deadly, we acknowledge the contributions, resilience and leadership of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and remain committed to advancing reconciliation through meaningful action.
