Meet Dave! 🐾❤️

This gorgeous boy has bilateral hip dysplasia and multiple spinal issues, requiring ongoing conservative management.

When Dave first came to see me a couple of years ago, he was experiencing full-body tremors.

I referred Dave to Rivergum for a comprehensive veterinary assessment and diagnosis, so we could better understand his underlying conditions and develop an appropriate management plan.

Dave initially underwent an intensive course of Bowen therapy before transitioning to regular monthly maintenance treatments.

With regular Bowen therapy, his full-body tremors have significantly reduced. His owner now generally notices them only when he’s approaching his next treatment.

His ongoing management also includes Canine Vital Spinal Powder, TedandCo full-spectrum h**p oil and Antinol. His owner has noticed a huge difference with the combination of supportive supplements incorporated into his care routine.

Fortunately, Dave has been able to avoid daily anti-inflammatory medication, only requiring it when needed, and surgery has not been necessary at this stage.

While we can’t correct the underlying structural issues, we can focus on managing his symptoms, supporting his mobility and maintaining his quality of life.

Not every condition can be fixed, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make a meaningful difference. ❤️🐾

MAISIE WALKS AGAIN! 🐾💙

Remember little Maisie? Our beautiful senior rescue girl recovering from Stage 4 IVDD following spinal surgery.

Well, look at her now! 🥹

After months of rehabilitation, plenty of ups and downs, and a period where her progress seemed to plateau, Maisie is back on her feet and walking!

She’s still a little wobbly, but what an incredible milestone for this determined little girl. 💙

Her recovery has been a real team effort, combining ongoing Bowen therapy, targeted rehabilitation exercises and the wonderful dedication of her family.

A special thank you to Long Dogs WA, whose continued support helps Maisie access the rehabilitation she needs.

Recovery from IVDD isn’t always linear, and every dog’s journey is different. Maisie is a beautiful reminder of why patience, consistency and celebrating every little achievement matter.

Keep going, Maisie. We’re all cheering you on! 🐾💙

Maisie’s recovery has had its ups and downs. Following surgery for Stage 4 IVDD, she progressed to Stage 3 and then plateaued for a while. More recently, she’s taken another lovely step forward and is now attempting to walk much more often. Still wobbly, but very determined! 🐾

As a senior girl, her rehabilitation has taken time, and we’re continuing to work at her pace. Her treatment plan combines Bowen therapy with targeted physical therapy exercises at home, and her family have been incredibly dedicated and consistent with both. We’ve also recently added red light therapy as an adjunct during her sessions.

As a little rescue dog, Maisie’s ongoing rehabilitation is supported by Long Dogs WA. Their fundraising and hard work help dogs like Maisie access ongoing care and rehabilitation. 💙

Recovery isn’t always linear — consistency and those little wins matter. 🐾

🌿 Did you know Canine Muscle Therapy is a wholesaler for McDowell’s Herbal Remedies?

I’ve been using McDowell’s supplements with my own dog, Gypsy, for around 14 months now.

I’m always cautious about recommending products to my clients. I prefer to use them myself, give them plenty of time and see the results before I’m comfortable putting my name behind them.

Gypsy was diagnosed with discoid lupus when she was only two years old. Because she was so young, I wanted to explore supportive options alongside veterinary care rather than having her on long-term medication if we could avoid it.

She has been having her McDowell’s remedies consistently every day, and her condition has remained stable, without progressing and without the need for medication. Consistency has definitely been key for her.

After seeing how well Gypsy has done, I’m now happy to let my clients know that I can supply McDowell’s Herbal Remedies through Canine Muscle Therapy. 🌿

They have a large range, so if there’s something you’re interested in, feel free to send me a message and I can include it with one of my upcoming wholesale orders.

As always, supplements should be used alongside appropriate veterinary advice and aren’t a substitute for veterinary diagnosis or treatment. 🐾

What happens to the disc material after an IVDD herniation? 🐾

When a disc herniates, material from inside the disc — the nucleus pulposus — can rupture through the outer annulus fibrosus and enter the spinal canal, causing inflammation and compression of the spinal cord.

But what happens to that material if a dog is treated conservatively rather than having surgery?

The body can gradually break down and resorb some of the extruded disc material. The amount and rate of resorption can vary from dog to dog.

This natural process can occur alongside healing, but strict rest has another very important role. Restricting movement reduces stress on the injured disc and helps reduce the risk of further extrusion while the area stabilises and inflammation settles.

Recovery takes time.

Many dogs can recover extremely well with conservative management — but neurological deterioration or uncontrolled pain always requires veterinary reassessment.

Rest isn’t “doing nothing.” It’s an important part of IVDD treatment. 🐾

Neurological recovery starts long before walking. 🧠🐾

Kirpa has Stage 5 IVDD. With surgery not an option and a very guarded prognosis, her outlook was grim.

But the nervous system has an incredible ability to adapt through neuroplasticity — strengthening and reorganising neural pathways following injury.

Standing independently, maintaining balance and weight bearing are important building blocks of neurological recovery.

And here is Kirpa, standing and balancing all by herself. ❤️

Sometimes the smallest-looking milestones are actually enormous.

Meet Penelope — the beginning of her rehab journey 💗

Penelope has recently started her rehabilitation and Bowen therapy with me following surgery for IVDD.

She’s still quite roached through her back and wobbly on her hind legs, with her right hind a little slower to respond. She’s now having weekly rehabilitation and Bowen therapy to support her recovery, improve mobility and address the soft-tissue tension and compensation that can develop following spinal injury and surgery.

Her rehabilitation also focuses on encouraging appropriate movement and sensory input as her nervous system continues to recover and adapt.

When we first started, Penelope was very sensitive through her soft tissues, so we’re working gently to reduce this tension and help her move more freely and comfortably. Today was only her second treatment, and she was already noticeably less sensitive. 💕

We still have a way to go, but she is such a happy little girl and we’re looking forward to sharing her progress with you.

Penelope’s rehabilitation is funded by Long Dogs WA, made possible by the fundraising, donations and hard work that goes into supporting dachshunds like her. 🐾

Three years ago, I thought I was going to lose my active, happy dog I knew. 💔

My girl Milly was diagnosed with lumbosacral disease, she was in constant pain. She could barely walk more than a few steps before needing to stop. Watching her struggle was heartbreaking.

We saw a specialist, had an MRI, and explored every option. Surgery wasn’t suitable for Milly. We tried medication, but unfortunately it didn’t give her the relief we’d hoped for.

That’s when I focused on supporting her in every way I could.

I introduced Full Spectrum H**p Oil alongside a carefully planned rehabilitation program that included weekly Bowen therapy and other targeted supplements.

Fast forward to today…

This video was filmed just a few months ago.

Milly is now 12 years old, running along the beach with so much joy. Incredibly, she’s actually moving better now than she was at nine, when we feared her condition would only continue to decline.

I can’t say one thing alone made the difference. Her progress is the result of a comprehensive management plan, consistency and time.

But Full Spectrum H**p Oil is one supplement I’ve never been without, and it continues to be an important part of Milly’s long-term care.

That’s why I’m so pleased to now offer it in both 15 mL and 30 mL bottles.

The new 15 mL size is perfect if you’d like to try it before committing to a larger bottle.

If you’d like to know whether Full Spectrum H**p Oil could be a good option for your dog, feel free to get in touch. I’d be happy to discuss whether it’s appropriate for their individual needs.

❤️Every time I watch Milly run like this, I’m reminded just how far she’s come.
