Somatic techniques can be truly transformative — when applied with enquiry and aligned to our bodies needs.

Working through the process of connecting to the body is a meaningful journey, though it's worth noting that these techniques can fall short when we aren't acknowledging the individual history our body-mind carries. It's also important to recognise where our baseline sits, the reference points that direct what we do.

Building that foundational connection, so we can engage with the parts of us holding old emotional pain, is essential. Recognising sensations, feelings and emotions as guidance and in response we can begin reinstating new, supportive patterns.

What makes the difference is when we commit to ourselves and give ourselves the time, the care and the honesty to slow down and develop the capacity to respond to what our body is telling us.

I’ve recognised this inward journey, can be difficult to do on our own for many reasons.

Having supports that holds us in true regard, to feel accepted and supported through it, and respectfully guided can be a beautiful process; one many of us may never have experienced before. This can be experienced in therapy, and may be necessary to work through it with someone skilled.

Rushing the process and expecting ourselves to be in front is not going to work. We may just be selling ourselves short of what we are truly capable of and the life we could be leading.

This is the space I have chosen to pay close attention to in my practice. With lived experience and evidence-based approaches, I offer real conversation and genuine support to help you start rewriting the old default script that may just be reaching its expiry date.

The message I share today comes from a more personal place — because sometimes hearing someone else's truth is what helps us recognise our own.

I won't sugarcoat it. Life can bring heartache so deep it feels like your body is caving. And yet so much of the world around us says: just move on. That gap — between what we're actually feeling and what we're told to feel — can be an isolating and exhausting place.

Through my own journey and years of working in counselling, I've come to understand that what we go through is not a flaw in us. It is a process.

One of the most honest metaphors I've found for this comes from ancient texts — the transformation of iron into gold.

Iron represented the raw, unrefined self — our ego, our fears, our unprocessed wounds.
Gold represented the purified self — the part of us that is clear, grounded, and free.
The process between the two? Heat. Pressure. Resistance. Forging.

Most of us know that struggle. Many of us are living it right now — trying to cope, keep learning, and show up for life all at the same time.

The real transformation work isn't about thinking our way through it. It's about gently moving through it — in body and mind together. And that's the part that so often gets sold short.

So many of us have been trained from early on to override what we feel — to perform, to keep up, to push through. Meanwhile, the world around us models a version of life that can feel impossibly far away. Without inner clarity and support, that constant reaching becomes exhausting.

There is a better way. Not a perfect way. Not an overnight way. But a real, sustainable one — built on everyday practice, self-acceptance, and learning to genuinely care for yourself.

Self-regard — that quiet, deep inner richness — isn't something you find by reaching outward. It's something you come home to. And it keeps you feeling enough, and grounded enough, to respond to yourself and to life.

Sunday Reflection Tweaked!

The Courage to Grow

Life can push, pull, tangle and pressure us
leaving no room to pause.
Or is it in these moments
that we learn? to bend and let resistance go and grow?

What once held us is tested—
no longer have we enough to carry us forward.
Our tendency is to push, and grasp, we hold— to the familiar dance, however, this time feels different.

Stepping back, we notice—
the tension, the confusion, the space between.
Could this be an invitation?
A whisper from the heart,
guiding us towards another way forward.

We listen. We ground. We feel.
Courage and faith unfold,
reminding us—
we have done this before.

That's right, as children, we wondered, played,
frolicked with the lightness until we laughed, and surrendered what wasnt ours to hold.
This was before our wings were clipped
in the name of being someone elses right.

But, little they knew our wings grew back.

When we steady, we sense the echoes,
the silence, the wounds—
and with support, we can see all that is needed to break the spell.

The weight of shame and blame falls away.
The short straw was never ours to keep.
Bitter, sweet, rage, and grace—
they pass through us,
as these feelings are not us.

We are light—
burning bright,
melting what no longer belongs.
Through life’s contrast,
truth finds its way through the cracks.

Life is uncertain, shifting, raw.
But we are not alone.
There is another way—
one of courage, of becoming,
We trust and find a way, through another which can inspire and remind us, that we are free.

Free to give ourselves permission to outgrow the old, to unfold,
to follow the heart’s knowing,
to rise, to fly again.

A reflection of life, as a Counsellor, a Witness, a Student, an observer on this endless journey called life.

Thank you to all who have walked, and walk with me.
We may feel knowing, but we never truly know.
And in that, we grow.
