Standing up.
2.5 months/10 weeks to the day - almost to the minute since I got mowed down.
69 days since I last stood up. Today at 3:45pm I did it. I stood up.
I didn’t get this far without putting in a lot of work, mental and physical, finding motivation everyday in the things I love. Of course the first was my family and my friends but wanting to have a swim in the ocean and ride my bike (non-existent ownership at this point) with my dad, my buddies and my kids.
My biggest shout out goes to who’s had to drop normality to be there for me and our little family. Making room in your life for a broken husband, hospital visits, home mods, eye surgery for the cat and a baby that is determined to destroy you. I look forward to you healing too.

I’m well aware that I still have a very long way to go. This part of the rehab is going to be much slower. But the 🥕 was dangled today with the physio wheeling in an exercise 🚲!
I want to ride again much to my wife’s dismay, but this wasn’t a bike accident.

Discharge:
Well, it’s happened. The day has come! After 65 days - 4 weeks in Royal Perth Hospital, 5 weeks in Fiona Stanley’s Rehab Facility. I’ve made it through the biggest stint I’ll have away from my family in this journey.
I’ve experienced what I think ‘everything’ might actually mean. I’ll let you contemplate that for a moment.
I’ll do that cliche thing that everyone does, but everyone actually means.
So, from the absolute depth of my heart thank you, all of you. Whether it be the guy that took my meal tray with a smile, my friends, my family, my wife, my kids and even the and you all made this journey with me. Texts, calls, cards, thoughts, likes, DMs, drop ins, biscuits, flowers, chocolate, lego, grand finals, tears, laughter, bacon and bikies. There are memories in scattered deep hospital brain I’ll be digging out and processing for years to come.

From here, it’s hydro and pool work for 3-4weeks living at home!!! I do have to go back for a week maybe 2 in Rehab again to do the ‘walking on land’ thing that humans do. 👣 then it’s all up to me to get 💪🏼💪🏼.

Hydro:

Today I stood up for the first time in 9 weeks! A momentous occasion that coincides with the exact day 9 weeks ago I was run down. 😬
Despite needing to be in water at chest height, my brain 🧠 still struggled to compute the concept of ‘doing walking’ 🥴. I was unsteady, like a baby🦒. My pelvis was so painful but it’s slow steps. I’ve been yearning for this day. I have already preloaded my mind with the drive of hitting the next big challenge. 💪🏼💪🏼

So far I’ve been relentless - hitting the gym and doing whatever else I could on my shoulder and knee just waiting for this green light- Now I have a new challenge with new goals to reach and smash.

It’s unfortunate I am able to ‘walk’ just 2 days before I say goodbye to this place for a few weeks but ………..
I’m going home!!! Albeit only for a few weeks and in ♿️, but to be back with my wife and kids is going to be so so so good!

I’ll be back here again in a month for a few weeks when I can properly learn to walk on land again.

Until then
