Hi 👋🏽 I’m Elleisha. A BHSc nutritionist, mum of two and ultra runner with an Ironman hubby.

I have worked clinically in the gut microbiome and hormones space for 5 years, including complex unresolved gut cases, and have started weaving that knowledge into my experiences running 100+km ultras.

I went from postpartum mum to ultra runner, so I know what it’s like to rebuild your body, find your feet with running and work towards things that once seemed completely out of reach.

My approach is a combination of emerging science, evidence, clinical experience and real life practice.

I’m here to share helpful info, recent research and plenty of enthusiasm for endurance, while showing you what is actually possible with the right nutrition and support.

And if you need the extra support, click the link in my bio to book a 1:1 consult.

You’re training your legs, but you are letting yourself down if you aren’t training your gut as well.

A very simple guide to help start implementing gut training. It says 2 weeks, but build with your tolerance, it can take longer much longer for some people and it’s easier for others!

Some may want to start at 40g per hour and build up to 60g over several weeks. Others will be able to start at 60g and build to 90g in less.

Your gut is highly unique, so start here and adjust accordingly.

If you’re constantly experiencing bloating, pain, loose stools or constipation, it’s time to stop blaming your training and ask yourself:

What’s really going on here?

Your gut’s function needs to take priority over carb-tolerance training.

Because if your gut is already struggling, throwing a gel at it isn’t going to solve the problem and will probably leave you feeling much worse.

Endurance runners can be at increased risk of iron deficiency.

Why?

Running can increase iron losses, including through sweat and exercise-related breakdown of red blood cells.

Exercise also temporarily increases hepcidin, a hormone that reduces iron absorption and the release of stored iron.

And if you’re training a lot while not getting enough iron through your diet, or you’re losing iron through menstruation, your iron stores can gradually fall.

Importantly, iron deficiency can happen before anaemia. Your haemoglobin can still be normal while your iron stores are low.

So if running suddenly feels harder, you’re unusually fatigued, or your performance is dropping, iron status may be worth investigating.

That doesn’t mean every runner needs an iron supplement.

But if you notice the symptoms in the reel you should get some blood done!

These fibers feed the good bacteria in your gut that help maintain healthy digestion. If you don’t feed those species you simply won’t have them…

no food = no life

If you suddenly throw a huge amount of fibre in after eating limited fibre, you will also experience digestive issues like bloating due to having low numbers of these species to break down the load you just consumed. So the trick is to add fibres in SLOWLY to feed up those microbes over time.

Let me help you rebuild yourself. You can do this.

I know it because I started at 0kms. Sleep deprived and not exercising. It’s time to put your goals on the priority list too.

You wake up and run.. same.

But “I can’t eat” isn’t really the issue.
You’re just trying to eat the wrong things.

You don’t need a full meal.
You just need something.

3 tbsp of apple sauce is enough to start.

This isn’t about fuelling your whole day.
It’s just about giving your body something it can actually use straight away.

Quick carbs = energy for right now.

Stop trying to force heavy, slow foods before a run.
That’s why it feels hard.

Keep it simple.
High GI before.
Proper meal after.
