A lot of people assume that if you’re gluten free, you must be healthy.
And if you have coeliac disease, you may have even thought this yourself.
After all, you’re avoiding gluten, reading labels, planning ahead and doing everything you can to look after your health.
So it can feel confusing when you don’t feel as well as you think you should.
The reality is that while a gluten-free diet is essential for managing coeliac disease, “gluten free” doesn’t automatically mean nutritionally balanced or optimised for gut health.
What often gets missed is the how:
✔️ How gluten-containing foods are being replaced
✔️ Whether enough fibre and gluten-free wholegrains are included
✔️ How nutrient needs are being met
✔️ And whether there are other factors contributing to ongoing gut symptoms
So if you’ve ever found yourself thinking:
“I’m gluten free... shouldn’t I feel healthier than this?”
I want you to know you’re not alone.
And it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re doing anything wrong.
It may simply mean there are pieces of the puzzle that haven’t been fully explored yet.
This is exactly the space I work in—helping women with coeliac disease and ongoing gut symptoms understand what’s really driving how they feel, while building a nourishing, sustainable gluten-free diet that supports both gut health and long-term wellbeing.
