Your call to prioritise your nutrition, just as much as your exercise 💭

I see it all the time in clinic - busy women who train 3-4x per week to better their health, but they don’t refuel within the hour after exercise.

Then, wonder why they’re exhausted, feeling puffy, not seeing body composition changes and feeling like their hormones are out of whack.

📖 Evidence shows that 30g complete protein (containing 2-3g leucine), 30-60 minutes after exercise encourages muscle protein synthesis. 30-60g carbohydrates in this window further accelerates how our body uptakes protein AND is a wonderful “safety” signal to our hormones - assisting with reproductive hormone balance and cortisol balance.

✨ It’s something I’m really prioritising myself after finding out I have Polycystic Ovaries.

🥣 Today I had: 1/2 cup rolled oats, 1 tbsp chia & water microwaved for 90s. Then stir in a handful of blueberries and microwave for another 30. Finally, stir in 2 tbsp protein powder and top with 1/2 tbsp peanut butter.

🤍 I hope you found this reminder helpful. If you’re looking for specific guidance on what your exact pre/post exercise fuelling should look like, based on your goals and exercise type - my 1:1 SUPPORT is where this happens.

Some Wednesday story time 📖 stop chasing the “appearance” of health, rather than health ITSELF!

The desire for a certain body should never come at the expense of other aspects of your health - sleep, bowel motion regularity, your immune system, gym performance or general motivation/enjoyment of life!!

Girls… it is just not worth it!

Take it from me 👉 my desire for a “healthier” appearance left me with Anorexia Nervosa and Orthorexia (an obsession with healthy eating) in my teen years.

My advice: take a step back and ask yourself “to get the body in striving for, what parts of my mental or physical health am I sacrificing?” If you can name more than 1 thing… you need to refocus.

✨ If you need support, this is exactly what I do in 1:1 support work. Give you guidance and education to make the health changes that truly matter. A well supported body will always give you want you want. You just need to know how to support it in the right ways 🤍

The PMOS Pathology Guide is a practical educational resource designed to help women better understand which pathology tests may be useful when investigating the underlying drivers of their Polycystic Ovaries or Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS).

👉 Too often, women are left with “go on the pill” or weight-loss medications to manage insulin resistance. Or, they’re met with other “one size fits all” solutions.

But you deserve to understand why your body is experiencing these symptoms in the first place.

I’ve worked with women with PMOS to support the restoration of ovulation, more regular cycles, and natural pregnancies by taking a deeper look at their individual pathology and using that information to guide more personalised diet and lifestyle strategies.

✨ The guide explores the underlying drivers of PMOS that can be investigated through simple blood tests

✨ It was also inspired by my own journey of being told I had polycystic ovaries and wanting to understand why - rather than simply managing the symptoms.

🩸 The guide also includes access to a Pathology Guidance Consultation - a dedicated 30-minute consultation to help you gain clarity around which specific tests may be relevant to your individual PMOS picture and how the results can inform your diet and lifestyle management.

I know firsthand how overwhelming it can feel when you’re given a diagnosis without understanding what’s driving it.

I’m here to help you make sense of it 🤍

📣 An Androgen panel and fasting glucose is not enough for your PMOS management. You deserve more!

✨ So, for PMOS awareness month I’ve developed a resource inspired by my own journey navigating Polycystic Ovaries and the many cases I see in clinical work who have not had adequate testing to uncover underlying drivers of their PCOS/PMOS.

✨ My PMOS Pathology guide is your starting point to understand gaps in your current care - so you can receive the individualised hormone and nutritional support you deserve.

✨It is designed to provide education and awareness, not encourage self diagnosis.

📣 Ovulation is the most important part of a woman’s cycle - without it, a woman’s body doesn’t produce enough natural PROGESTERONE.

Progesterone has so many benefits other than preparing our bodies for potential pregnancy:

✅ Controls inflammation (what that means for you: less period pain, joint pain or chronic pain from existing conditions)

✅ Helps build bone (what that means for you: lower risk of Osteoporosis)

✅ Increases anti-anxiety neurotransmitters (what that means for you: not feeling like an emotional, anxious wreck randomly throughout the month or before your period)

✅ Controls oil secretion (what this means for you: less hormonal acne breakouts that seem to happen every month before your period)

You can imagine that all these benefits mean that lack of ovulation links to:

🩸Worse PMOS symptoms - specifically bloating, period pain, heavy periods and unpredictable cycles
🩸PMDD (ie. depression and strong mood changes prior to your menstrual bleed)
🩸 Neurological Perimenopause symptoms such as anxiety
🩸 Pain and bloating for 2 weeks every cycle
🩸 Angry breakouts before your period

💡 Ovulation can occur anywhere between day 11 and 20 of your menstrual cycle. Don’t just rely on your Flo app to tell you when you’re ovulating!!

✨ My 1:1 support is where cycle health and tracking is mastered, in relation to your specific health concern - whether that is Endometriosis, PMOS, Perimenopause or irregular/absent periods of an unknown cause.

3. support testosterone balance
4. prescribe clinical dosages of supplements which are backed by evidence to support ovulatory cycles in women living with PMOS
5. guide you on the best exercise strategies for you to harness potential excess testosterone and improve insulin resistance (as I’m a PT too 🤗)

A bit more clarification on my points in the video are below:

CYSTS = developed eggs that haven’t been released into the fallopian tube via ovulation.

PolyCYSTIC = multiple cysts = multiple eggs that haven’t been released via ovulation.

Ovulation is the only way women produce natural PROGESTERONE, a vital hormone for brain health, mood regulation, pain/inflammation regulation and bone health.

📣 You deserve more than just being told to take the Pill, go on Metformin or inject GLP-1 medications to manage your PMOS and fertility outcomes.

📣 “Just keep a healthy body weight” is an incorrect statement as even lean women with Polycystic Ovaries have an increased risk of Insulin Resistance. Instead of being dismissed, you should be tested for Insulin Resistance. Then directed to a Clinical Nutritionist or Dietician if it’s detected.

📣 GLP-1 medications can assist to reduce PMOS related weight gain, yet an alarming % of muscle mass can be lost on these medications which further increases long term medical risk. It’s wild to me that discussion of exercise and protein intake is not common practice with the a prescription of GLP-1s.

Disclaimer: I am not against medical intervention for PMOS. Sometimes, GLP-1 medications or low dose Metformin are necessary when Insulin Resistant type PMOS isn’t sufficiently managed with nutritional changes and exercise in high metabolic risk individuals.

However, mild-moderate cases CAN be managed with nutritional changes, strength training 3x per week & supportive supplements depending on the case.

✨ You deserve to know the whole story, so you can feel in charge of your health outcomes and make completely informed decisions

Women’s health deserves more than the medical system offers. Let’s talk about it 👇

The day I left for my New Zealand holiday, I attended my gynaecologist appointment to get clarification on a deep infiltrating endometriosis scan.

During the scan, signs of superficial Endometriosis were found, but the more significant finding - I had Polycystic Ovaries 🤯

During my gynaecologist appointment I was dismissed when asking for any non-surgical advice and told that keeping a healthy body weight is the only thing I can do if PMOS is suspected.

I was handed a simple Androgen test.

❌ Not asked about my cycle history
❌ Not given any referrals for metabolic tests
❌ Told it’s likely genetic and it doesn’t matter if I don’t want kids
❌ Told that no supplemental support could help if I do have PMOS

😬 Even worse, casually asked if I wanted a hormonal IUD inserted if I choose to have Endo surgery with no education on how this can inhibit ovulation… when Polycystic Ovaries already indicate I may have issues with ovulation.

I nodded my head and left. In that moment, I felt EXACTLY how my clients feel when dealing with women’s health concerns with medical “specialists” in the field.

Dismissed and made to feel like the pill or surgery was my only option.

✨Woweeee I have a fire in my belly to spread awareness about the multitude of ways natural medicine can help PMOS and Endometriosis.

Also how IMPORTANT ovulation is for women’s health in general (it’s not just for conception).

🤍 Stick around as I share my journey from the clients side and create better systems & resources for women going through the same journey.
