As the days get shorter and the weather cools, many people notice changes in their energy, motivation, and daily routines.

This isn't simply a matter of willpower.

Seasonal changes can influence our sleep patterns, mood, activity levels, and overall sense of motivation. Tasks that felt manageable a few months ago may suddenly require more effort.

If you're finding it harder to stay motivated this winter, it may help to:
• Keep a consistent routine where possible
• Spend time outdoors during daylight hours
• Focus on small, achievable goals
• Be mindful of your sleep and self-care habits

A slower season doesn't mean you're falling behind. Sometimes the season itself plays a role.

If low mood, reduced motivation, or changes in sleep are beginning to impact your wellbeing, professional support may help.

Mid-year exams can bring added pressure for teens, and for the parents supporting them.
During this time, it can help to focus less on perfection and more on creating steady, supportive routines around study, rest, meals, movement, and sleep.

Stress around exams is common, but teens don’t have to manage it alone. Small check-ins, realistic expectations, and encouragement can make a meaningful difference.

Good luck to all who are sitting exams or tests!

Fertility journeys and women’s health experiences can bring a wide range of emotions, from hope and anticipation to grief, uncertainty, and overwhelm. IVF, pregnancy loss, and hormonal transitions such as perimenopause and menopause can all have a significant emotional impact.

Our Fertility & Women’s Health Support services are led by Louise Buck, Clinical Psychologist and ANZICA-registered fertility counsellor, and provide compassionate, evidence-based psychological care for individuals and couples at any stage of their reproductive journey.

We offer a safe, supportive space to help you process what you’re going through, strengthen coping strategies, and feel more grounded throughout your journey.

You don’t have to navigate this alone - support is here when you need it.

Starting psychology for your child can feel like a big step, and it’s normal to wonder what the first appointment will involve.

For parents, the first session is about getting to know your child, building rapport, and understanding what has brought you in. Your psychologist may ask about your concerns, goals, your child’s development, school, family life, strengths, health, challenges, and what support may already be in place.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before you come in. The first step is simply starting the conversation, and your psychologist can help guide what comes next.

Burnout often sneaks up slowly - feeling constantly exhausted, emotionally drained, or disconnected from work, family, or study can all be signs. It’s not just “tiredness”, it’s your mind and body signalling that the current load is unsustainable.

Recognising these signs early is crucial. Once you acknowledge them, you can take meaningful steps to restore balance, including:

• Setting realistic boundaries and priorities
• Incorporating rest and self-care into your routine
• Seeking professional support when needed

Knowing how to claim a rebate for psychology sessions can feel confusing, so let's walk thorugh the two main rebates our clients use.

Firstly, Medicare, through a Mental Health Care Plan referral from your GP or psychiatrist, and secondly, through private health insurance, depending on your level of cover.

If you are eligible for Medicare rebates, your GP or psychiatrist will specify the number of sessions you can claim. Medicare covers part of the session fee, and there will still be a gap fee.

You cannot claim both Medicare and private health insurance for the same session, so it is worth checking which option is best for you before your appointment.

Not sure what applies to you? Our friendly reception team is happy to talk you through your options.

By May, the year can start to feel heavier than expected.

The energy and motivation of January often give way to full schedules, ongoing responsibilities, and the quiet pressure to keep everything moving. Over time, stress can begin to feel less manageable, and for many people, this is when the early signs of burnout start to appear.

Burnout doesn’t always happen suddenly. It can build gradually, showing up as fatigue that doesn’t go away, reduced motivation, irritability, or feeling mentally foggy and overwhelmed.

In this blog, we explore how stress can shift into burnout, the role of load and capacity, and practical ways to recognise and respond before things escalate.

Sometimes, starting therapy can feel daunting, especially if you’re not sure where to begin.

It’s completely okay if you don’t know what to talk about when you first come in. You don’t need to have everything organised, explained, or figured out before your appointment.

Your psychologist will help guide the conversation, ask questions, and work with you to understand what feels most important to explore.

Therapy is a space to start wherever you are.

Today we celebrate the love, strength, care, and dedication that mothers show every day. From the quiet moments to the countless ways they support those around them, mothers play an incredible role in the lives of their families and communities.

Mother’s Day is an opportunity to recognise and appreciate everything mothers do - the care they give, the resilience they show, and the impact they make every single day.

Wishing all mothers a day filled with love, appreciation, and care.
