Women’s Health Week is a reminder that looking after ourselves can take many different forms. 🌷

This year’s five themes are to fuel, to move, to rest, to breathe and to connect. Some days, one of these might come easily. Other days, even the small things can feel like a lot.

There’s no perfect way to look after your wellbeing, and it doesn’t need to look the same from one person, or one day, to the next.

This Women’s Health Week, we’re celebrating all the different ways women care for their physical, mental and emotional health. 💗

Happy Father’s Day

Today we’re celebrating dads, stepdads, grandfathers, father figures and all the people who show up with care, patience and support in their own way.

There’s no one way to be a good dad. Sometimes it’s in the big moments, but often it’s found in the everyday ones: listening, encouraging, making us laugh, being there when it matters, and simply giving it your best.

Wishing a very happy Father’s Day to all the dads and father figures in our J&R community.

There are plenty of myths about seeking psychological support.
Here are Paul Jeffery's alternative to his top 3 myths:.

1. Seeking support is a sign of courage and wisdom
2. Psychologists won't always have the answer; they will work with you to find the answer.
3. Good therapy isn’t always about helping you reduce discomfort; it's often about helping you cope with it so you can live the way you want.

At its best, therapy is a collaborative process: making sense of what’s happening, finding a helpful way forward, and building the capacity to face difficult parts of life rather than needing to escape them.

In therapy, questions aren’t asked just for the sake of asking.

Your psychologist may explore different parts of your life, experiences, relationships, thoughts and behaviours, even when they don’t immediately seem connected to what brought you to therapy.

Each question helps build a clearer picture of you, what’s happening, what may be contributing to or maintaining difficulties, and where it might be helpful to focus.

Much like reading a map, understanding the landscape helps us work out where to go next. 🗺️

Sometimes the path forward starts with getting curious about where you are.

We’re looking for a Clinical Psychologist to join the team at Jeffery & Ree Clinical Psychologists and Sleep Matters.

This role would suit a clinician looking to work around 2–4 days per week, in either a contractor or employee capacity, within a well-established private practice that values clinical excellence, collegiality and professional growth.

You’ll be supported by an experienced administrative team, strong practice systems, regular peer consultation and supervision, with flexibility to shape your caseload around your interests and strengths.

For clinicians with an interest in sleep, there is also the opportunity to develop advanced skills in behavioural sleep medicine through Sleep Matters, with structured training, supervision and access to an established referral base for insomnia and other sleep disorders.

We’re particularly interested in hearing from clinicians who value autonomy, thoughtful teamwork and ongoing development, and who are looking for a practice where they can do rewarding clinical work while remaining well supported.

The role offers strong private-practice earning potential and flexible work options.

If you’re considering your next move, or would simply like a confidential conversation about whether J&R might be a good fit, we’d love to hear from you.

You don’t need to have a diagnosis, or even be able to put a name to what you’re experiencing, to see a clinical psychologist.

Sometimes the starting point is simply knowing that something isn’t feeling right, that you've noticed you're not coping, or that you’d like support in making sense of what you’re experiencing.

Your psychologist will help guide the session, ask questions to understand what’s been happening, and work with you to make sense of what might be helpful from there.

You don’t need to arrive with all the answers.

📚 It’s Book Week!

We asked some of our J&R clinicians to bring along a book they wanted to share — and their choices might tell you a little something about the people behind the psychologist. 👀

Whether it’s reading for leisure, a book they often recommend to clients, or something that has shaped their knowledge and practice, there’s always a reason behind what’s on the bookshelf.

Here’s a little look at what some of our team are reading, recommending and returning to.

Now we want to know: what book would you choose? 📖

Healthy support isn’t about taking over or having all the answers.

Sometimes, the most helpful thing we can do is provide a steady base — listening, encouraging, checking in, and giving someone the space to work through things in their own way.

Support can mean being there without trying to solve everything. 💚

Some things change over 20 years. The values behind the work shouldn’t.

Jeffery & Ree Psychology began with the idea: psychological care should be grounded in good science, delivered by skilled clinicians, and still feel genuinely human.

As the practice has grown, we’ve tried to hold onto that combination: thoughtful, evidence-based psychology alongside warmth, curiosity and respect for the person sitting across from us.

The team is much bigger now, and psychology itself has evolved enormously. But those foundations still shape the kind of practice we want J&R to be.

A little of the story behind how it all began from co-director, Paul Jeffery

For many people with OCD, the problem isn’t simply knowing the answer, it’s feeling certain enough about it.

That lingering doubt can lead to checking, seeking reassurance, mentally reviewing what happened, or trying to find complete certainty. These responses are called compulsions and may bring some relief in the moment, but the doubt later returns, keeping the cycle going.

OCD can take many different forms, and compulsions aren’t always visible to others. Learning to recognise the cycle can be an important part of understanding and managing OCD.

If OCD is interfering with your day-to-day life, psychological support can help.
