Cardiologist and Cardiac Testing

We are delighted to welcome Dr Jonathan Lipton to the Perth Cardiovascular Institute team.

Dr Lipton is a cardiologist and electrophysiologist who joins us from Royal Hobart Hospital, bringing world-class expertise in the management of complex heart rhythm disorders.

His clinical practice covers the full spectrum of rhythm management, from complex catheter ablation and pacemaker implantation to cardiac resynchronisation (CRT) and implantable defibrillator (ICD) devices. He is an early adopter of leadless pacemakers, conduction system pacing and pulsed field ablation, and is fully accredited by both the Cardiac Electrophysiology Institute of Australasia and the European Heart Rhythm Association.

Dr Lipton established the first comprehensive electrophysiology service in Tasmania before moving to Perth. He leads international outreach initiatives in Cambodia and Fiji, bringing sustainable arrhythmia care to communities that need it most.

Consulting locations: Mount Hospital, Mount Medical Centre with a public position at Fiona Stanley Hospital.

It's Heart Week!

The single most useful thing you can do this week for your long-term heart health is to book a Heart Health Check with your GP.

It's Medicare-subsidised. It takes about 20 minutes. You'll walk out knowing your risk of heart attack or stroke in the next 5 years and you’ll know what to do about it.

If you're age 45+ (30+ for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, 35+ if you live with diabetes), you're eligible.

Some things raise your heart disease risk that you can't change: age, family history, genetics.

But five of the biggest ones? You can.
1. Blood pressure — know your numbers.
2. Cholesterol — have it checked.
3. Smoking — every day without it helps.
4. Physical activity — 30 minutes most days.
5. Diet — more plants, less processed.
You don't have to change everything at once. Pick one. Start this week.

A Heart Health Check could be one of the most important 20 minutes of your year but most people don't know it exists.

If you're 45 or over (or 30+ if you're of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, 35+ if you have diabetes), you're eligible for a Medicare subsidised Heart Health Check with your GP.

In that appointment, your GP looks at your blood pressure, cholesterol, lifestyle and family history to estimate your risk of a heart attack or stroke in the next 5 years and what you can do to lower it.

With Heart Week starting next week (4–10 May), now is the time to book one in.

A big thank you to all the GPs who joined us for our Women’s Heart Health event in October at Kailis Bros Leederville!

It was a fantastic evening of discussion and education, with insightful presentations from Mary Nangrahary and Susan Kuruvilla on the importance of recognising and managing heart disease in women.

We were joined by 35 local GPs and it was great to have Dr Lucy Stauborg from Healthy Hearts in attendance, whose work in cardiac rehabilitation tied beautifully into our discussions. The event was supported by AstraZeneca and Novo Nordisk.

The venue, food, and atmosphere made for a polished, professional event. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a success.

Together, we continue to raise awareness and advocate for better heart health outcomes for women across Western Australia. ❤️
