As a registered NDIS provider, we believe stronger laws and greater accountability are important for protecting participants and maintaining trust in the sector.

Most providers work hard to do the right thing, and these changes should help ensure that those who take advantage of participants or the NDIS system are held accountable.

A positive step towards a safer and more trustworthy NDIS ๐Ÿ’ช

There are new laws for the NDIS.

These changes will help the NDIS Commission prevent harm and exploitation to participants, and hold providers to account.

Key changes include:

- New offences for providing false or misleading information and intentionally destroying records to defraud the NDIS
- New offences for providers offering kickbacks and inducements
- Stronger protections for whistleblowers who report wrongdoing.

๐ŸŒ Interesting fact! Did you know that our team at Affinity Care WA comes from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds too?

Weโ€™re proud to be a multicultural team with many of our people speaking two or even three languages. We understand that finding a provider who respects your culture, understands your background and communicates in a way that makes you feel comfortable can make a big difference.

If you or someone you know is looking for a provider who understands and supports people from CALD backgrounds, weโ€™d love to hear from you ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿง  Improving access to specialist mental health support for regional WA.

A new virtual mental health service, WISH, has been launched to help improve access to specialist mental health care for children and young people living in regional and remote Western Australia.

WISH brings together a multidisciplinary team of specialist practitioners who can provide virtual advice, care and interventions to regional mental health teams, helping local services support children, young people and their families closer to home.

The service also includes specialist support in areas such as complex trauma and attachment, infant mental health, eating disorders, family therapy and neurodevelopmental disorders.

This is a positive step towards making specialist mental health support more accessible, regardless of where a young person lives.

You can speak with someone in person at your nearest NDIS or LAC office. Simply search your suburb or postcode to find the closest location https://www.ndis.gov.au/contact/locations

Sometimes navigating the NDIS can feel overwhelming, especially if you're new to the scheme or don't have someone to guide you. If you're unsure where to start, need help understanding your plan, or simply have questions about the NDIS, remember that you don't have to figure it out alone.

At Affinity Care WA, we offer complimentary NDIS consultations to help participants and families understand their options and point them in the right direction. If we can help answer your questions, we're always happy to do so.

๐’๐š๐Ÿ๐ž๐ญ๐ฒ under the NDIS is bigger than most people realise, and it's worth knowing what you're entitled to, whether you're just starting with a provider or years into a service agreement.

It's not only about being physically safe. It's about feeling genuinely respected and in control in your own home and supports psychologically, socially, financially, culturally. That's what "๐ฌ๐š๐Ÿ๐ž" actually means under the NDIS.

Here's what's worth knowing, whatever type of support you're receiving:

๐‚๐ก๐จ๐ข๐œ๐ž ๐š๐ง๐ ๐œ๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ซ๐จ๐ฅ ๐ข๐ฌ๐ง'๐ญ ๐š ๐ฌ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐š๐ง - it's a right. You're entitled to be part of decisions about how your supports are delivered, not just informed after the fact. If a provider is making calls without checking in with you first, that's worth questioning.

๐‘๐ž๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž ๐ฉ๐ซ๐š๐œ๐ญ๐ข๐œ๐ž๐ฌ (things that restrict a person's rights or freedom of movement) can only be used in very specific, regulated circumstances with proper authorisation, ongoing review, and reduction plans in place. If a provider mentions using any restrictive practice and can't clearly explain the authorisation behind it, ask more questions.

๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐š๐ง should reflect your goals, not just a provider's rostering convenience. It's meant to be a living document, reviewed with you, not something handed over once and forgotten.

๐‘๐ข๐ฌ๐ค ๐š๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ž๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฆ๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ exist to support you to do the things you want to do, not to justify saying no to things. Good risk planning is about working out how something can happen safely, not finding reasons it can't.

๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐š๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ ๐ฉ๐š๐ญ๐ก๐ฐ๐š๐ฒ - You can raise concerns with your provider and the NDIS Commission, and it should never affect the quality of your supports.

Knowing your rights means you can engage with any providers feeling confident. And that's exactly the kind of relationship we want to build with you at Affinity Care WA - open and honest right from the start.
