1. Joint attention
2. Turn taking
3. How to engage a child in play

How do you help a child to stop stuttering? A GREAT question!
There is an effective technique used to help a child stop stuttering. However, it is best shown by a Speech Pathologist as understanding when to stop the flow of speech is important.
WHAT NOT TO DO!!!! Don't let a child keep stuttering over and over again until they say the target word. This allows the brain to keep patterning this error.

This is a great question. The first signs can actually be identified in Kindergarten. If your child is struggling to learn phonological awareness (rhyme, onset and rime, syllable, etc) this could be a red flag. The next red flag is when they are in pre-primary and they struggle to learn the alphabet sounds, segment and blend 2 and 3 letter words (e.g. at, rug). Then in year 1 they are still spelling 3 and 4 letter words with little success.
It is really important to get help when they are in PP as they can be caught up.
At Perth Speech Therapy we work with BOTH the child and the parent.
A parent needs to be shown how they can help their child at home. This is INVALUABLE!!
