💛 A big shout-out to all carers this National Carers Week!
🌻 To all the parents, family members, friends and support people who show up every day for someone they care about - we see you, we appreciate you, and we celebrate you!
🫶 Are you a Mum or Dad who knows the NDIS portal better than the call centre does? Then this week is for YOU (and many others too!).
🤩 It’s National Carers Week!
💙 We want to thank and acknowledge the unpaid carers who support family and friends with disability or health conditions, or who are ageing.
🤲 And lots of carers are disabled people themselves - caring is not a one-way street.
👁 This year’s theme is: “Care for a carer: Making carers visible.”
🤝 It’s a reminder that carers need looking after too - and that a “thank you” is lovely, but practical help is better.
🫴 Here are 5 tips from Carers Australia for supporting a carer you know:
1️⃣ Check-in regularly
2️⃣ Offer a break
3️⃣ Acknowledge and appreciate
4️⃣ Initiate support
5️⃣ Encourage self-care
📚 Carers Australia also has more information, stories, events and resources available as part of National Carers Week (we will put links in the comments from 9am).
🌐 You can head to your state or territory carer association to see what is available (we will include links in the comments).
📞 You can also call the Carer Gateway on 1800 422 737 for more information.
🙏 To every carer: we see you, and we thank you.
💬 Carers - what would ACTUALLY help you this week? Tell us in the comments. I wish my Genie was available, but they disappeared when I mentioned NDIS… (--Sam, being a bit cheeky!)
