Bob has been fascinated by opals since he was a teenager.

When he was younger, searching for them could take him as deep as 90 feet underground. These days, the way Bob searches has changed, but the excitement of discovering that next flash of colour hasn’t.

Over the decades, his passion has also become part of his family’s story, with treasured finds passed on to his children and grandchildren.

To continue to recognise International Day of Older Persons, we’re celebrating the lives older people have lived, and continue to live, and the interests, experiences and stories that make each person who they are.

Moving into aged care doesn't mean leaving behind the things that make you feel at home.

Bringing familiar belongings, continuing your usual routines and staying connected with family and friends can all help make the transition easier.

Our teams take the time to get to know each resident, including their interests, preferences and the little things that matter to them.

Whether you're planning ahead for yourself or supporting someone you love, we've put together five practical ways to help make settling into aged care easier.

It's National Nutrition Week, a chance to open up the conversation around the challenges and opportunities within Australia's food landscape.

In aged care, good nutrition plays an especially important role in supporting health and wellbeing. Staying hydrated, eating enough protein and enjoying social mealtimes are just three simple ways older people can maintain better nutrition.

Regis Holland Park welcomed in the warmer weather in style last week with an Aussie BBQ complete with snags, burgers, prawn salad, and of course, a pavlova.

The BBQ was part of the monthly Chef's Table, an initiative that brings chefs and residents together to shape themed menus. Each Chef’s Table features a full menu, including main meals and desserts, tailored to the selected theme at each home.

Ian, who lives at the home, was particularly impressed by the BBQ's signature drink; a Great Northern B**r. He embraced the theme wholeheartedly, proudly wearing his Great Northern cap.

“The food looks fantastic, and nothing beats a typical Aussie BBQ!” he shared.

A lot of life has happened between these photographs of Liliana. But some things haven’t changed.

Liliana modelled as a young woman in Italy and, today, fashion and beauty are still an important part of how she expresses herself — especially her signature red lipstick.

Following International Day of Older Persons earlier this month, we’re celebrating the lives our residents have lived, and continue to live, and the interests, experiences and stories that make each person who they are.

Everyone has a story. Sometimes, all we need to do is ask.

At Regis Lutwyche in Queensland, springtime signals more than warmer weather and blooming flowers, it marks the return of the annual Spring Art Show.

Residents proudly showcased artworks created during art therapy sessions, sharing their creativity with family, friends and students from nearby Wooloowin State School. The students also contributed pieces to the exhibition and spoke with residents about their artistic choices, creating an opportunity for social connection and a shared appreciation of art.

Throughout the day, residents and families enjoyed hands-on activities including watercolour painting, spring flower collages and colouring stations.

Resident Barbara shared, “It is lovely to see my work on display, I can’t believe I painted it, it makes me so happy.”

Regis Sandgate-Musgrave Men's Group recently enjoyed a day out to Lakeside Raceway, one of Australia's most iconic racing circuits.

For resident Bob, the visit was especially meaningful. Around 20 years ago, he managed the Lakeside Race Track and has fond memories of his time there.

Since moving into aged care and joining the home's Men's Group, Bob had often mentioned wanting to show his mates around and share with them the magic of the track. The day lived up to Bob's stories for the group, and the men were treated to an impressive collection of classic and vintage vehicles, including Ford Cortinas, Mini Coopers, Lotus cars, MGs and Corvettes.

Lakeside Racetrack President John even suggested that on their next visit, the Regis bus might take a lap around the track.

The things that make us who we are don't change simply because we grow older.

For Liliana, it's her lifelong love of fashion and beauty. For Bob, it's the thrill of discovering opals. For Helen, it's her playful approach to life. And for Charles and Sheila, it's the love and laughter they've shared for more than four decades.

This International Day of Older Persons, we're celebrating the individuality of the people who call Regis home and the passions, relationships and experiences that continue to shape their lives.

Throughout October, we'll be sharing their stories and getting to know the people behind these wonderful faces.
