🌿 A little reminder about self-care… 🌿
At Safe Counselling Australia, we often talk about the importance of taking time to rest, recharge and look after ourselves — and that includes us too! 💚
From 12–18 August, We will be taking a well-earned break and practicing what we encourage our clients to do: prioritising our own wellbeing.
Our office will be closed during this time, and we’ll be back refreshed and ready to support you from 19th August.
Thank you for your understanding and for allowing us this time to rest and reset.
(Please note: Our phones will be off as I will be out of the country. Please email [email protected] and I will get back to you on the 19th August.)
Take care of yourselves, and we’ll see you soon.

The recent 30 minute livestream shared on TikTok by Perez Hilton has left many people shocked, distressed, and deeply affected.

When graphic or traumatic content remains visible for an extended period, it can have a significant emotional impact on viewers. You may find yourself replaying what you saw, feeling anxious, overwhelmed, tearful, unable to sleep, or struggling to concentrate. For children, teenagers, and people with a history of trauma, the effects can be even greater.

Social media platforms have a responsibility to act quickly when harmful content is being broadcast. Thirty minutes is far too long for distressing material to remain live and accessible to millions of people.
If you watched the livestream and have noticed it affecting your wellbeing, please don't ignore those feelings. Talk to someone you trust, take a break from social media if needed, and seek professional support if the images or emotions continue to stay with you.

Our thoughts are also with Perez Hilton. Mental health challenges can affect anyone, regardless of their public profile or circumstances. We genuinely wish him strength, healing, and the support he needs on his journey to recovery. Every person deserves compassion and access to appropriate care during difficult times.

At Safe Counselling Australia, we want you to know that you don't have to process difficult experiences alone. If this livestream has left you feeling traumatised or emotionally impacted, please reach out. Support is available, and talking about what you've experienced can make a real difference.

Reminder: this is happening tomorrow at 12.00 if you have your phone on silent the alarm will still go off.

Reminder: this is happening tomorrow at 12.00 if you have your phone on silent the alarm will still go off.

We’re testing Australia’s new national warning system, AusAlert, across Australia tomorrow as part of the AusAlert national test.

⏰ Set a reminder for 5 minutes before the test time in your location so you are prepared in case you receive it.

The national test will be sent to all compatible mobile devices in Australia, which includes most mobile phones, some smart watches and some tablets. Apple iPads don’t receive AusAlerts.

See the test time in your location below:
🟢 Australian Capital Territory – 2pm AEST
🟡 New South Wales – 2pm AEST
🟢 Queensland – 2pm AEST
🟡 Tasmania – 2pm AEST
🟢 Victoria – 2pm AEST
🟡 Northern Territory – 1.30pm ACST
🟢 South Australia (including Broken Hill, NSW) – 1.30pm ACST
🟡 Western Australia – 12pm AWST
🟢 Christmas Island – 11am CXT.

📱 The test will be a Critical Alert. Your device will vibrate and play a loud siren-like sound for around 10 seconds before stopping, even if it is on ‘silent’ or 'do not disturb'. The message will clearly identify itself as a test and no action is required. If you don’t receive the AusAlert national test, this is fine too, as it’s just a test.

📅 Save this post and set a reminder now so you know when to expect the AusAlert national test in your area.

For women and children experiencing domestic violence – if you have a hidden safe phone, we recommend turning it OFF, giving it to a safe person, or switching it to airplane mode on July 27th at 12pm.

A new Australian national warning system (called the AusAlert test) will send a safety alarm to all phones at this time, even if the volume is turned down, or it’s on silent / do not disturb.

Share this message & stay safe. 🧡

💛 Has your relationship changed?
When you first met, you probably gave each other your best. You made time, listened, laughed, and enjoyed simply being together.
But somewhere along the way, did life get in the way?
Have you started putting all your energy into work to provide for your family, instead of putting your energy into your family?
Does everyone else get the best version of you, while your partner gets what's left at the end of the day?
If this sounds familiar, you're not alone. Relationships don't usually fall apart overnight, they slowly drift when connection isn't nurtured.

Here are a few simple ways to reconnect:
✨ Spend 10–15 minutes together each day without phones or distractions. Connect: this opens up time to communicate with each other

✨ Ask each other, "How are you really doing?" and truly listen. Often an argument will start when one parter becomes defensive in a discussion rather than really listening to their partners feelings.

✨ Express appreciation for one thing your partner did today. This shows that you see them and what they are doing.

✨ Plan regular time together, even if it's just a walk or a coffee. The walk and talk method really helps couples who are struggling to communicate and feel overwhelmed to just sit in front of each other.

✨ Remember that small, consistent acts of kindness build strong relationships.

Which one of these could you start doing this week? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Lately in Sessions there has been a common theme being presented- the emotional mental load.

The mental load of parenting is often invisible, and incredibly heavy.
It’s the constant planning, remembering, worrying, organising, emotional holding, problem solving and trying to meet everyone’s needs while quietly putting your own last.
Over time, this exhaustion can impact mental health, relationships, patience, sleep and self-worth.
Many parents also carry harsh inner dialogue:
“I’m failing.”
“I should be coping better.”
“Everyone else seems to manage.”
“I’m not doing enough.”
But what if we challenged those thoughts with gentleness instead?
✨ “I am doing the best I can”
✨ “Parenting was never meant to be done perfectly.”
✨ “Needing support does not make me weak or a failure.”
✨ “Rest is my self care”
✨ “My worth is not measured by how much I do.”
Small strategies that may help:
• Speak to yourself as you would a friend
• Lower unrealistic expectations
• Share responsibilities where possible
• Allow space for rest without guilt
• Focus on connection, not perfection
• Reach out for support when things feel heavy

At Safe Counselling Australia we understand the emotional weight many parents silently carry. You do not have to navigate it alone.
