One of the things clients say that never gets old… 👇

"I forgot I was wearing them."

That is the goal. Not just better hearing, but hearing that disappears into your life so completely that you stop thinking about the devices and start just living. 🥰
Getting there requires more than picking the right technology. It requires someone who knows how to program it specifically for your ears, your hearing test results, and the actual environments you spend time in.

The difference between a hearing aid that sits in a drawer and one that someone wears every single day is almost never the device. It is the fitting. 🤯

If you have tried hearing aids before and they did not feel right, that is worth talking about. And if you are considering them for the first time, starting with a full evaluation gives us the information we need to get it right from the beginning.
That is the part we take seriously at Perth Hearing & Tinnitus Clinic. 👂

Thinking about buying a hearing device online or over the counter? 👂

Before you do, there are some hearing and ear symptoms that are worth having professionally assessed first. 🚩

Sudden changes in hearing, one-sided hearing loss or tinnitus, ear pain, discharge, severe dizziness and a persistent blocked sensation can all warrant further investigation.

A hearing assessment isn't just about finding out whether you need hearing aids. It can help identify the type and pattern of hearing loss and whether referral to your GP or an ENT specialist may be appropriate.

If something has changed with your hearing, don't just turn up the volume — find out what's going on first. 💙

Did you know most hearing aids come with a free app? 📲

While some patients love it, some never use it.
Which is completely understandable, as the devices themselves adjust on their own.

But here is what it actually does: 👉 it lets you adjust the volume, switch between listening programs, and in some cases activate a remote microphone feature, all from your phone, without touching your ears or drawing any attention to yourself.
The one I suggest starting with is the volume control. 📶 That’s it. Just that one feature, for the first few weeks. Once it feels natural, everything else is easier to explore.

If you downloaded the app when you got your devices and never looked at it again, it might be worth a second look. And if you are not sure where to start, that is exactly what follow-up appointments are for!
We are here. 👂

Did you know not all hearing aids are the same? 👂✨

With hearing devices now widely available online and over the counter, it can be tempting to simply choose one yourself — especially when it seems like a quick and affordable option.

And for some adults with mild hearing difficulties, they may be helpful.

👉 But here’s what’s important to understand…

**Hearing loss isn’t one-size-fits-all.**

A professionally fitted hearing aid starts with a comprehensive hearing assessment to understand exactly what you’re hearing, what you’re not hearing, and what may be causing the difficulty.

Your audiologist can then recommend and program hearing aids specifically for your hearing levels, listening needs and lifestyle — rather than relying on a generic or self-adjusted solution.

A professional hearing assessment can also identify when changes in hearing may need further medical investigation, rather than simply amplification.

**You can buy a hearing device. But understanding your hearing first can make all the difference.** 💙

If you or someone you love is considering hearing aids, we’re here to help.

Most people think of hearing loss as something that develops over time. But sometimes, it can begin with a single knock to the head.

👉 Mild head injuries are easy to brush off.

You might feel a little sore, a bit "off" for a few days, and then carry on with life. No stitches, no hospital stay, nothing that seemed serious enough to worry about.

But even a mild traumatic brain injury (concussion), including one where you **didn't lose consciousness**, can affect your hearing, balance, and the brain's ability to process sound.

Whether it was a fall, a bike or e-scooter accident, a sporting collision, or even a minor car accident where you bumped your head, these incidents can sometimes have lasting effects that aren't immediately obvious. 🧠👂

If you've noticed:
👂 Ringing in your ears (tinnitus)
😵 Dizziness or balance issues
🗣️ Difficulty following conversations, especially in noisy places
..and these symptoms started after a head injury, it's worth mentioning this to your audiologist.

Your medical history can provide valuable clues and help us better understand what's happening and why.

Every detail matters. 💙

We’ve all been there — singing at full volume, completely convinced we know the words… only to discover we’ve been making up our own version the entire time. 🤦‍♀️🎤

Misheard lyrics are funny (and incredibly common!), especially when music, background noise and similar-sounding words are involved.

But if your Misheard Lyrics Club membership is starting to extend beyond your favourite songs…

👂 “Wait, what did you say?”
👂 “Can you say that again?”
👂 “What did they just say on TV?”
👂 Struggling to follow conversations when there’s background noise?

…it might be worth checking in on your hearing.

A hearing check is simple, and it can give you a much clearer picture of what’s going on.

And in the meantime, we want to know…

👇 What lyric did you sing completely wrong for YEARS before someone finally corrected you?

No judgement — we’re pretty sure there are some spectacular ones out there. 😂🎶

Untreated hearing loss affects far more than the ears! When the brain is not receiving clear sound signals, it begins to work overtime to fill in the gaps. 🧠

Over time, this extra effort can lead to changes in the areas of the brain responsible for processing sound and even the regions that help with attention and focus. It is the brain’s way of adapting, but it can make communication feel harder and more tiring than it needs to be. 😥

The good news is that early testing and treatment help keep both your hearing and your brain engaged in the way they are meant to function. If you have noticed changes in your hearing or find yourself working harder to follow conversations, this is the perfect time to take the next step.

We are here to support you with clarity, care, and guidance every step of the way.

Our overall health plays a powerful role in how well we hear, and diabetes is one condition that deserves special attention.

Over time, changes in blood sugar can affect the tiny blood vessels and nerves in the inner ear, making hearing loss twice as common in people with diabetes compared to those without it. It is a reminder that caring for your hearing is also part of caring for your whole body! 🫶❣️

If you or someone you love is managing diabetes, a baseline hearing test is a simple and meaningful step toward long‑term wellness.

We are here to support you with compassion every step of the way!

Believe it or not… moisture is one of the most common reasons hearing aids stop working properly.

A helpful tip is to use a drying kit overnight. It can actually remove up to 95% of trapped moisture and help extend the life of your devices!

Whether you’re active, outdoorsy, or simply living in a humid climate, keeping your hearing aids dry protects your investment and keeps you hearing clearly day after day.
