A vital part of effective counselling is a trusting, safe relationship between you and your therapist. Knowing when to speak - and when to simply pause and breathe - is where real healing begins.

We love seeing this reflection of Monique’s warmth and dedicated care at our Mandurah practice.

Holding Space for Your Wounded Self 🩶

Healing doesn’t begin by ignoring the wounded parts of ourselves, it begins by listening to them with compassion. Often, the inner voice we criticise or try to silence is actually a part of us that learned to survive through pain, rejection, fear, or disappointment. Instead of responding with judgement, we can learn to respond with curiosity, kindness, and understanding. Speaking gently to ourselves, acknowledging past hurt, and recognising unmet emotional needs can be a powerful step toward healing and self-acceptance. Growth isn’t about becoming someone new; it’s about learning how to care for the parts of ourselves that needed support all along.

As part of our ongoing commitment to helping businesses create healthier, more resilient workplaces, Breathe Counselling now offer Breathwork and nervous system regulation workshops for staff as an extension of our Employee Assistance Program services.

These workshops are designed specifically to support employees experiencing stress, burnout, overwhelm, fatigue, emotional exhaustion, and ongoing nervous system dysregulation — challenges that are becoming increasingly common across modern workplaces.

Research continues to show that workplace stress has a significant impact on productivity, absenteeism, staff retention, and overall morale.

Studies indicate that mentally healthy workplaces experience:

• Reduced sick leave and burnout
• Increased employee engagement and performance
• Improved team connection and communication
• Greater resilience under pressure
• Higher staff satisfaction and retention

Our workshops provide practical, evidence-informed tools that employees can immediately apply in both their professional and personal lives.

Workshop topics may include:
• Breathwork for stress reduction and nervous system regulation
• Managing overwhelm and preventing burnout
• Emotional regulation and grounding techniques
• Mindfulness and restorative wellbeing practices
• Building resilience in high-pressure environments
• Creating sustainable self-care habits for long-term wellbeing

Sessions can be tailored to suit your organisation and delivered:
• In person or online
• As one-off wellbeing events
• As part of staff development days
• During Mental Health and Wellbeing initiatives
• As ongoing monthly wellbeing sessions for teams

These workshops are experiential, engaging, and accessible to all staff regardless of previous experience.

If your business does not have an Employee Assistance Program with us and you would like us to deliver a workshop, we would be happy to provide further information or discuss tailored Wellbeing workshop options for your workplace.

What actually happens in the brain during gentle breathwork? 🧠💨

Gentle breathwork can help calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and shift the brain out of “fight or flight” mode by activating the body’s natural relaxation response. Research suggests slow, intentional breathing may support emotional regulation, clearer thinking, and a greater sense of safety and calm. Our latest blog explores the neuroscience behind breathwork and why simple breathing practices can have such a powerful effect on mental wellbeing.

Your Voice Matters 📢

Advocating for yourself means clearly and respectfully expressing your needs, boundaries, and opinions, even when it feels uncomfortable. It’s a skill many people struggle with due to fear of conflict, guilt, or being seen as selfish. Staying silent often leads to others making decisions for you, which can harm your wellbeing, while learning to speak up builds confidence, self-worth, and healthier relationships. Start small, be assertive but respectful, ask for clarification or support when needed, and stand by your boundaries, as self-advocacy is not about being aggressive, it’s about ensuring your voice is heard and your needs are met.
