Before-and-after cases like this are why we love dermatology 🐾✨
When this patient first presented, they were struggling with severe skin disease:
• Marked thickening of the skin affecting multiple body regions
• Significant hair loss and malodour
• Inflamed, greasy paws with secondary infection
• Heavy ear debris and infection
• Cytology revealed large numbers of bacteria and Malassezia
Following treatment with targeted antimicrobial therapy and anti-inflammatory medication, we achieved significant improvement in both the skin and ears.
At recheck:
✔️ Skin inflammation dramatically reduced
✔️ Ear cytology normalised
✔️ Skin thickening greatly improved
✔️ Secondary bacterial infections resolved
The patient has now successfully transitioned off steroids and is being maintained with long-term anti-itch therapy and pulse antifungal treatment to help keep flare-ups under control.
These results are never achieved by medication alone. Managing chronic skin disease requires a true team effort between the veterinary team and a dedicated owner. From administering medications and cleaning ears, to regular bathing, topical therapies, and attending follow-up appointments, the commitment shown by this patient's family played a huge role in their success. 👏
Dermatology cases are often a marathon, not a sprint. While this patient still requires ongoing management, these photos show just how much improvement can be achieved with the right diagnosis, a tailored treatment plan, and outstanding dedication at home.💙
