Animal Dermatology Clinic was proud to be represented at ANZCVS Vet Science Week 2026, at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre - Australasia's premier scientific and educational conference for veterinary professionals.

It was a privilege to present to colleagues from across Australia and New Zealand, sharing insights in veterinary dermatology alongside such a distinguished program of speakers and researchers.

The conference also provided a valuable opportunity to reconnect with longstanding colleagues and friends within the profession, and to build new connections that will continue to support collaboration and knowledge-sharing in the years ahead.

A big thank you to Dr Rusty Muse for spending the past few weeks with us at Animal Dermatology Clinic while Dr Mandy enjoyed a well-earned break. 💙💚

It has been fantastic having Dr Rusty back in clinic, sharing his wealth of knowledge and caring for our patients. With more than 30 years of experience in veterinary dermatology, his support has been invaluable, and we're so grateful he could join us again.

Dr Mandy has now returned from leave and is back seeing patients, refreshed and ready to see all of your furry family members.

And don't worry - this isn't goodbye! 👋 Dr Rusty will be back with us again in September, and we can't wait to welcome him back to the clinic.

This patient presented with marked claw overgrowth and severe digital hyperkeratosis affecting all four feet, with the forefeet more severely affected than the hindfeet.

As part of treatment, we carefully:
🐾 Trimmed the overgrown nails
🐾 Dremelled the paw pads to remove excess keratin and improve comfort

Hyperkeratosis isn't just a cosmetic issue - it can make walking uncomfortable and may indicate an underlying skin condition that requires further investigation.

If your pet's paw pads are becoming thickened, cracked, or rough, it's worth having them assessed by your veterinarian.

🐱 It may only take a few minutes, but a blood test can tell us a lot.

For pets receiving long-term medication, routine blood testing helps us monitor their health behind the scenes. We typically perform a Complete Blood Count (CBC) and biochemistry profile to check things like:

🩸 White blood cell count – looking for signs of inflammation or infection
🩸 Red blood cells – checking for anaemia
🩸 Liver and kidney values – ensuring medications are being processed safely
🩸 Electrolytes and proteins – helping us assess overall health

The frequency of testing depends on your pet's medication and individual treatment plan. We may also recommend a urine test to provide a more complete picture of kidney health.

Regular monitoring helps us detect changes early, so we can adjust treatment if needed and keep your pet feeling their best. 💙💚
