I often am called a psychologist and sometimes I haven't bothered to explain the difference, especially since I have a major in psychology but I am a social worker and this means I am often supporting my clients to navigate different systems and advocating for them alongside therapeutic work. There are people I work with who were slipping through the cracks when I met them and are now in stable homes, with stable incomes, accessing health care and community supports. These changes in their lives have dramatically improved their mental health in ways that go beyond the therapeutic work we've done together and facilitate a strong therapeutic alliance, which improves the efficacy of whichever therapeutic modes you use with your clients.

Today we acknowledge the ongoing impact of the Stolen Generations on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities. We also honour the strength, resilience and healing embodied by so many Indigenous people today.
