Alopecia areata is a common autoimmune skin disease resulting in the loss of hair on the scalp and elsewhere on the body. It usually starts with one or more small, round, smooth patches on the scalp and can progress to total scalp hair loss (alopecia totalis) or complete body hair loss (alopecia universalis). Alopecia areata affects approximately 2% of the population overall, . This common skin disease is highly unpredictable and cyclical. Hair can grow back in or fall out again at any time, and will affect anyone at any age, of any gender, of any race....IS DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE and there is NO CURE. With more awareness one day this will change and a cure will be found.

September is Alopecia Awareness Month

Alopecia is very much an individual journey. How we cope, and interrupt what is happening to us. But together, sharing our thoughts, fears, and experiences; we gain insight, knowledge and support. I know personally living with alopecia for almost 30 years and only becoming part of a community of other alopecians in the last few years, I have gained so much. Each day is different; some bad but mostly fabulous now.

September is Alopecia Awareness Month. If you were to share this to your page someone you may or may not know that has alopecia will see this and know they are not alone. Alopecia can be a very lonely and isolating disease. Let them know they are not alone. Hit share today.

My daily mantra
- even after all the years living with alopecia, even with the good days and bad days that I still experience living with alopecia.

Alopecia is an auto-immune skin disorder causing the body to reject hair, "The Enemy" Alopecians suffer terrible self esteem crushing discrimination and have to find inner strength in order to survive. We constantly have to fight for awareness. as we have fought through the pain. We are Bald, Strong and Beautiful. Hair is NOT needed to be "normal". Strength and beauty comes from within.

On days like today, warm and breezy I find myself missing my hair. I miss feeling the breeze floating my hair around. I also miss having hair as I struggle keeping the sun from burning my head. It just proves to show that no matter how much I have accepted my baldness and even on most days have embraced my baldness; we all can have a "bad hair day"
Tomorrow is a new day.
