Faces of Westcare: Meet Paul

Last month, Paul Taylor celebrated an incredible 40 years at Westcare, making him our longest-serving supported employee!

For more than half of Westcare’s 79-year history, Paul has been part of our story.

Based in Nedlands, Paul helps assemble and prepare printed materials, including the recognisable WA Purple Book, and operates key equipment such as the guillotine.

Known for his fun personality, can-do attitude and care for his workmates, Paul says he hopes to keep working for as long as he can while still travelling around Australia.

We’re proud to have Paul in the Westcare team and celebrate the meaningful employment opportunities created through Westcare’s social enterprises.

A fresh chapter for Westcare.

Westcare COO Fitz Cass recently sat down with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA (CCIWA) to discuss organisational change, collaboration with Mosaic, and the culture shaping Westcare’s workforce.

Speaking on the broader need to build employer confidence in disability employment, Fitz said, “The general view is that people seem afraid that something is going to go wrong.”

“But with the right supports, anybody with a disability can do a job just as effectively as somebody without one,” he added.

Westcare Village resident and Special Olympics swimming athlete Peter Furnell is back on a mission to raise funds for inclusive sports programs across Australia.

To support this important cause, Peter will once again take part in the Polar Plunge, jumping into icy water to raise awareness and funds.

Peter is aiming to raise $500 by 11 July, when he’ll take the big plunge.

“Yes, it will be cold… very cold. But it will be worth it,” Peter said.

Special Olympics Australia supports people with intellectual disability and/or autism through year-round sport, building skills, confidence and lasting connections.
