Join me on the latest episode of Flow Unleashed as I sit down with JD Tremblay, a powerhouse in Ultra Endurance sports, to discuss how structured discipline can open doors to unparalleled personal growth and fulfilment .

In this episode, you'll learn:
🌟 Why life is simpler when viewed in blocks of seasons
🌟 How to harness discipline as a liberating force
🌟 The importance of aligning habits with personal identity

JD, who completed 10 Ironman triathlons in 10 consecutive days across six Hawaiian islands, a naturopath, defines naturopathy as a nutrition- and habit-based, natural approach to healing, and explains “discipline creates freedom” as a chosen “prison” that expands opportunities, contrasting it with disciplined, unhealthy routines. He discusses how environment and past shape performance under pressure, but emphasises personal decisions, offering the FLOW framework: Foundation of biology, Load management, Optimise environment, Work with identity and purpose. JD describes shifting identity to include recovery, helping clients who feel stuck, and turning negative events into constructive action.

Tune in to gain insights on approaching life's challenges with a constructive mindset.

In our latest episode of "Flow Unleashed," movement coach and neuroscience educator James McCambridge discusses how cognition and emotion are shaped by sensory information from the body. The episode explains exteroception (external senses), interoception (internal state signals like temperature, blood pressure, oxygen), and proprioception (body position and movement), and how the brain builds predictive maps from these inputs. McCambridge argues movement is the brain’s specialised function, with most processing occurring unconsciously, and describes how sensory mismatches can drive irritability, anxiety, motion sickness, and post-COVID issues such as smell loss. They cover the cerebellum’s coordinating role and ways to stimulate it via precise, direction-changing, or very slow movements. Practical tools include vestibular training (balance with eyes closed and head movement), reducing visual dominance, and self-assessing nervous-system responses via range of motion, balance, coordination, or grip strength.

🌬️ Exciting News: Dive Deep into the World of Breathwork! 🌬️ with Christopher Gladwell on Returning to Functional Breathing

Christopher Gladwell about how breathing links thought, physiology, perception, and performance, arguing pain is natural but suffering is optional and rooted in the stories we tell. Gladwell describes his path from a traumatic childhood to running, martial arts, injury recovery, and deep study of yoga and meditation, and critiques formulaic breathwork that adds mental control rather than responding to physiology. He explains breathing’s cellular purpose (oxygen enabling ATP production), how stress thinking shifts breathing, carbon dioxide, and oxygen delivery, and how nasal, low, slow, abdominal breathing can rapidly shift emotional state via the limbic system and vagal pathways. They discuss cultivating embodied intelligence through feeling, movement, and awareness, reframing “flow” as our natural state, addressing attention conditioning, and viewing ADHD/neurodiversity as attentional variability that can be trained through rhythmic attention cycling. Gladwell’s practical takeaway is awareness of breathing and restoring functional nasal breathing before advanced practices.

What if the biggest barrier to your performance isn’t your workload — but your inner game?

In business, we spend a huge amount of time optimising strategy, systems, processes and teams.

But how often do we optimise ourselves?

In my latest webinar, I explore Overcoming Stress: The Inner Game of Leadership & High Performance — and why our ability to perform under pressure often comes down to the state we create internally.

I introduce the Blue/Red Performance Model and five common patterns that can pull us into the “red”:

🔹 Rehearsing the wrong experiences
🔹 Treating uncertainty as danger
🔹 Overthinking
🔹 Rarely optimising our experience
🔹 Being overly critical when we make mistakes

I also share the remarkable story of professional extreme skier Lorraine Hoover, who went from struggling with performance anxiety to becoming a world champion within six months by transforming her inner game.

The bigger message is simple:

High performance isn’t just about doing more. It’s about creating the conditions to perform better.

For leaders, this means developing greater self-awareness, self-regulation, trust and the ability to stay in the “blue” when the pressure is on.

What could change in your leadership if you spent as much time optimising your inner game as you do your business?

In flow you have a high degree of control, and it arrives the moment you stop gripping for it. The conscious grip of "I've got control of this" is a signal you've already dropped out.

What's there is an absence. No concern about losing control at all.

Which is what makes it awkward to coach. Tell someone to trust themselves and it doesn't land. Ask a worried person to let go and you get someone trying very hard to relax.

The clip below covers what the state actually contains, and why we don't reach for it until a lot of other work is already done.

Flow doesn't only turn up at a world championships.

Most of it happens on an ordinary Tuesday. Cooking something you know well. A conversation that stops taking effort halfway through. Twenty minutes of work where you forget to check the time.

Milder than the sporting version, and every bit as real.

Something shifts once a person can spot those moments inside their own week. They stop chasing an idea they read about somewhere and start recognising a state they can head toward on purpose.

Where does flow show up in your ordinary week?

Under real pressure, the thing you knew you should do can vanish. Here's what's happening.

You move between two modes. In competency mode your thinking brain is in charge: calm, open, able to choose. In survival mode the alarm system takes over, your focus narrows, and your body braces to get through the moment. Clear decisions and flow live in competency mode.

That's why someone can prepare all morning, walk in steady, then tighten up at the first hard question. The preparation was real. Pressure pulled them into survival.

The way back is small and physical. A slower breath. Feet on the floor. Enough safety to think clearly again.

Where does pressure tend to take you?

The next cohort starts September.

Ever been told to "just go with the flow"? It's one of the most common mix-ups about what flow really is.

Flow is intuitive action, being so absorbed in what you're doing that the right move happens without having to think it through. "Going with the flow" often means the opposite: quietly setting your intuition aside and letting everything else lead.

One is deep engagement. The other is drift. The good news is that the first one can be trained.

This clip gets into why the two get confused. Our Flow Coach Certificate is an easy place to start if you'd like to understand flow properly. What does "flow" usually mean to you?
