October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 💗

This month is a reminder to look after ourselves, check in with the women we love, and make time for our health.

Breast cancer can affect anyone, and finding it early can make a significant difference. In Australia, BreastScreen Australia provides free breast screening, with women aged 50–74 actively invited to have a mammogram every two years. Women aged 40 and over can also access free screening.

So this October, make the appointment, have the conversation, and encourage the women in your life to do the same 🌸

A little reminder today could make a big difference tomorrow.

A Weekend of Connection, Learning & Recognition 🤍

Funeral directors from across Western Australia recently came together for the Funerals Australia AGM and Education Weekend.

The weekend provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with colleagues from across the industry, exchange experiences and insights, and participate in a range of informative education sessions 🌿

It was also a time to acknowledge some important changes within the WA State Council. We thank outgoing WA State President Craig Renshaw for his leadership and service, and congratulate Adrian Barrett on his appointment as the new WA State President 👏

We also recognise retiring State Councillors Bernardine Brierty and Justin O’Dea, who have each dedicated more than 30 years of service to the WA Council. Their contribution to the industry and the families we serve has been greatly valued 🤍

A wonderful weekend of connection, education and looking towards the future of funeral service in Western Australia 🌿

Working Together Behind the Scenes ✨

There is so much that happens behind the scenes of a funeral, and understanding each part of the process helps our teams provide families with thoughtful and realistic guidance.

Recently, our consultants took part in training with our Mortuary and Trimshop teams to learn more about the important work they do and how the two areas work together 🤝

In our Trimshop, the team explored the different coffins and caskets we have available, the time required to prepare them, and the importance of accurate sizing and measurements to ensure the right option is available for each person. They also learned more about how the Trimshop and Mortuary work together to ensure everything is carefully coordinated.

Our Mortuary training provided an insight into the terminology and processes used within the mortuary, including condition reporting and the natural changes that can occur after death. The team were also able to see examples of how these factors can influence what is possible when preparing someone for their farewell.

For our consultants, this training is about more than simply understanding what happens behind the scenes. It helps them have informed conversations with families, set realistic expectations and better understand what is possible when honouring a person's wishes 💡

By learning from one another and understanding the work that goes into every stage of the funeral process, our teams can work together to provide the best possible care and support for the families we serve 🩷

From registering the death and organising the funeral to notifying banks, utility providers and government agencies, it provides clear information to help you navigate the process at your own pace.
