This Saturday is Dying to Know Day – a national awareness day that encourages us to have one of life's most important conversations: talking about death, dying and our wishes for the future 🌱

While these discussions can feel uncomfortable, they can also be one of the greatest gifts we leave our loved ones. Sharing your preferences, values and plans ahead of time can provide clarity, reduce uncertainty, and give your family confidence that they're honouring what matters most to you.

Whether it's over a cup of coffee, during a family dinner or on a quiet walk, there's no perfect time to start the conversation – only the value of having it.
This Dying to Know Day, consider taking the first step 🩷

At Leanne O'Dea, we're here to support individuals and families with planning ahead, helping make these conversations a little easier when the time feels right 🩷✨

Every funeral tells a story – and so does ours 🌹

Leanne O'Dea Funeral Directors was founded on a simple belief: that every person deserves a farewell that reflects the life they lived, and every family deserves genuine care, compassion and support during one of life's most difficult times.

Over the years, those values have remained at the heart of everything we do. While our profession has evolved, our commitment to listening, guiding and supporting families with dignity and respect has never changed 🤍

We're proud to continue that legacy, helping families create meaningful farewells that honour the unique lives of those they love.

Thank you to the generations of families who have trusted us to walk alongside them. It is a privilege we never take for granted 🤍✨

National Tree Day is almost here! 🌳🌱✨

This Sunday, Australians will come together to plant trees, nurture our environment and create a greener future for generations to come.

At Leanne O'Dea, we understand the deep connection between nature, remembrance and legacy. Trees can become living tributes – a place to reflect, remember and honour those we love 💚

Our Memorial Grove at Guildford Meadows offers families a peaceful setting where memories can continue to grow and loved ones can be remembered in a meaningful and lasting way ✨

As we look ahead to National Tree Day, we're reminded that even the smallest acts of care can leave a lasting legacy.

Because every tree planted today helps create tomorrow's memories 🌱

Grief is something we all experience differently, and there is no right or wrong way to navigate the journey of loss 🤍

This month, we're sharing the Good Mourning Podcast – an Australian podcast created by Sally Douglas and Imogen Carn following the loss of their mothers. Through honest conversations and shared experiences, the podcast explores grief, resilience and the many emotions that come with losing someone we love. With more than one million downloads, it has become a valuable source of comfort and support for many people navigating loss.

At Leanne O'Dea, we believe that support doesn't end with the funeral. Sometimes, a comforting conversation, a shared story or simply knowing that you're not alone can make all the difference 🕊✨

If you or someone you know is navigating grief, this podcast may be a gentle and supportive resource.

✨ Let's talk about women in funerals ✨

Last month, our CEO, Deanne McLeod, attended the Asia Funeral and Cemetery Expo & Conference, where she was invited to host an international panel discussion on Women in Funeral Service & Leadership.

Traditionally, the funeral profession was a male-dominated industry. Today, women make up more than 50% of the funeral workforce worldwide. Here at Bowra & O'Dea and Leanne O'Dea Funeral Directors, women represent 55% of our total team, with women also making up 80% of our management team and 100% of our Senior leadership team.

The funeral industry offers incredibly rewarding and meaningful careers, with opportunities across a wide range of roles—from client care and funeral directing to administration, operations, marketing, and leadership🌱✨

If you've ever considered a career where you can make a genuine difference in people's lives, we'd love to hear from you. Reach out to learn more about the opportunities available within our business!

Caring for Our Planet, Together

On World Environment Day, we celebrate families coming together to care for the planet. Whether through small everyday actions or shared community projects, families play an important role in teaching respect, responsibility, and love for the environment.

By nurturing the Earth today, we help create a healthier, more sustainable world for future generations — a gift for every family to share.

Celebrating All Kinds of Family

Today we celebrate the importance of family — in all its forms. Family isn’t always defined by blood; it can be the people who love, support and care for us, the friends who stand by us, or the communities that nurture us.

These bonds — chosen or given — form the foundation of our lives and communities, offering connection, guidance, and a sense of belonging.

On this International Day of Families, let’s take a moment to appreciate and honour all those who make our lives richer, brighter, and full of love.

Celebrating International Women’s Day 2025: For All Women and Girls – Rights and Equality

On March 8, 2025, we honour International Women’s Day with the theme "For All Women and Girls – Rights and Equality." This year’s focus is a powerful call to action, advocating for a world where every woman and girl—regardless of background, identity, or circumstance—has the freedom, opportunity, and support to thrive.

From gender equality in education and the workplace to reproductive rights and protection from violence, true progress means ensuring no one is left behind. Join the global movement by raising awareness, amplifying women’s voices, and taking tangible steps toward equity. Because when all women and girls rise, we all rise.
