Most people stretch their neck and shoulders when they feel tense.
Fewer people think about the thoracic spine, the mid-back region, which often becomes stiff in professionals who sit for long periods.

The thoracic spine is designed to rotate.
When it loses that movement, other areas of the body compensate, often the lower back and neck, which can then become overloaded.

𝙎𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙎𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙙𝙖𝙮 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙘𝙝:
Sit upright in a chair.
Cross your arms over your chest.
Slowly rotate your upper body to the right as far as is comfortable, hold for 2–3 seconds, then rotate left.
Repeat 5 times each side.
Keep the movement in your mid-back, not your lower back.

Happy Saturday!

Your headache might actually be coming from your neck.

Most people reach for a painkiller when a headache comes on.
That's understandable, but sometimes the source of the pain isn't in the head at all.

There's a type of headache, quite common in people who work at desks, that starts from restriction or tension in the upper neck. Because the nerves in that region connect to parts of the head and face, pain can refer upward and feel exactly like a tension headache.

Signs that the neck might be involved:
👉 it starts at the base of the skull, it's often one-sided, and it usually worsens after screen time or sustained sitting.

If this sounds familiar, it may be worth getting your neck assessed rather than just managing the symptom.

Most people don't realise that how they breathe during a stressful workday can contribute to chronic neck and shoulder tightness.

When we're stressed, we tend to breathe high and shallow, using the muscles at the top of the chest and neck instead of the diaphragm. Done repeatedly across a long day, this can overload muscles that were never meant to work that hard.

Simple tip:
A few slow, belly-focused breaths a couple of times a day may help interrupt that pattern. Breathe in through your nose, let your belly expand first, then exhale slowly.

Ever noticed that you feel more aches on the weekend than during the week?

It sounds backwards, but it's a pattern we often see. During a busy workweek, adrenaline and focus can mask the signals your body is sending. When you slow down, those signals get louder.

It doesn't mean something is wrong. It often means your body finally has the space to communicate.

Weekend tip: If you're feeling stiff after a week at the desk, a gentle 15-minute walk, not a workout, just a relaxed walk, can do more for your spine than you'd expect.

Movement helps the discs in your spine stay nourished and the surrounding muscles stay mobile.

Enjoy your weekend. And if you'd like to talk through what your body's been telling you, book online.

So if your workday is largely spent in chairs and on calls, your lower back has been working harder than it looks.

We often see professionals come in not from one dramatic incident, but from months of accumulated load, the kind that builds quietly until the body decides to speak up.

𝐓𝐢𝐩 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: Try lying on your back with your calves resting on a chair or couch (legs at 90 degrees). It's a simple way to let the lower back decompress after a long day.

Not pain.
That feeling that something is about to go wrong.
It's your body's way of saying
"hey, something here isn't as secure as it should be."

Think of it like leaning back on a wobbly chair.
You know immediately, before you fall, that something isn't right.
Your body reacts before your brain even finishes the thought.

That instinct is apprehension.

When your body moves a little easier, everything else tends to follow.

It’s not about being perfect or pain-free.
It’s about having enough ease to get through your day without everything feeling like effort.

Try this today:
– Take a 2–3 minute movement break every hour
– Roll your shoulders, turn your head gently, take a few slow breaths

Small resets can help your body stay on top of daily stress.

If you’d like support with how your body moves and feels day-to-day, you can book online anytime.
