Heard on the streets: “pelvic floor stuff is for young women only.”

Not even close. Incontinence doesn’t magically go away after a certain age.

If you’re over 50 (or heading towards menopause), this is your nudge to get your pelvic floor checked. Common doesn’t mean normal, and it definitely DOES NOT mean you have to put up with it forever.

Physiotherapy helps with a lot more than just incontinence. Have you got:
→ constipation
→ bloating
→ bowel urgency
→ frequent urination
→ pelvic organ prolapse
→ vaginal dryness
…???

We’ve worked with women of all ages and stages, including perimenopause and menopause, so we know how overwhelming all the changes in your body can feel. Our focus is making sure you feel safe in our space and your concerns are heard.

Share this with a woman going through perimenopause or menopause who’s finding it hard to get the right support.

Lovely lady lumps, tatas, the girls, melons, chesticles... whatever you call them, they’re giving main character energy this month 💅🏼

However your body looks or feels right now, chances are you know someone who’s been affected by breast cancer, or you’ve been through it yourself.

But what does pelvic floor physio have to do with breast cancer?

While we focus on the pelvic floor at PhysioSista, we’re also physios, and we help women build the strength and capability to move their bodies through every stage of life.

Treatment can leave you with a stiff shoulder, scar tightness, fatigue or changes like bladder leaks and vaginal dryness from hormone therapy or early menopause. Exercise might be the last thing on your mind during treatment or surgery recovery, but moving your body can help you maintain strength and fitness, and support your mental health through the friendships you build in our classes.

All of our classes have been developed by physios, so you won’t find a typical gym here. Instead, you’ll find a warm, welcoming and safe space where all bodies and abilities are accepted, and we meet you where you’re at, not where the gym bros say you should be.

The class we recommend for women going through breast cancer treatment or surgery recovery? REHAB.Reformer, a mix of pilates and resistance exercises (sounds scary but it isn’t). It’s a small class of max 3 people, so we can spend time helping each person with their form and technique.

DM us if you want to know more about this class, and share this post with someone going through breast cancer treatment or recovery who’d love to get back into exercise with a team who gets it.

How do you find the right Pilates class when you’re recovering after having a baby, gynae surgery or living with joint pain or prolapse?

Honestly, many reformer Pilates studios just aren’t built for this. Generic classes assume everyone’s starting from the same place, but your body isn’t guessing, it’s recovering, adapting and healing. You need someone who can guide you though rather than hand you a one-size-fits-all program.

That’s exactly why we built REHAB.reformer, clinical pilates led by a pelvic health physio. Every class is designed around rebuilding a pelvic floor connection and abdominal and pelvic strength in a way that actually fits where your body is at.

Before you start, we do a pre-exercise assessment that includes an external ultrasound of your pelvic floor and abdominal wall. It sounds more clinical than it is, it’s quick, non-invasive, and it means your first class is built around you, not a guess.

DM us and let’s talk about what recovery could look like for you.

Pelvic floor conditions rarely announce themselves in their actual medical term - you only know them by the symptoms you’re experiencing, so that’s what you look for.

We’ve created this go-to guide to help you understand the type of appointment you may need based on your symptoms, and if any of your symptoms aren’t listed here you’re welcome to DM us or call us (6170 5156) for a better understanding of how we can help you.

Our team takes a whole body approach to pelvic health care, offering personalised care and support you need to feel stronger, more confident, and symptom-free.

Not a coincidence - that’s a pattern your body is telling you.

Research shows there is a strong connection between migraines and the pelvic floor as they share nervous system pathways. This means when you experience pain in your pelvic floor, it can lower the threshold for pain throughout the rest of your body.

It’s Migraine & Headache Awareness week and a great reminder to listen to the signals our body is giving to us.

While not all migraines are triggered by pelvic floor dysfunction, if you are noticing a distinct pattern between pelvic pain, hormonal flucutations and migraine attacks, it’s worth raising it with your GP or seeing a women’s health practitioner who’ll be able to undertake an assessment to understand what your body is doing.

Curious to learn more about the connection between the pelvic floor and migraines and how it could help you? Send us a DM with your symptoms and experiences, and we’ll chat about whether you should come in for an assessment or not.

Admittedly we’re kinda late to this trend but there’s nothing as rewarding as being a late bloomer 🌸

Whether you’re looking for support with incontinence, endometriosis, your menstrual cycle, pelvic pain or need a place to start exercising and moving, it’s kinda smart to follow our page and discover what we’re all about here at PhysioSista.

“omg that was so cringe”

That feeling you have after you said something so weird, and it replays in your head 200 times at 3am?

Yeah, that’s what it’s like being a teenager - feeling awkward about 60% of the time (probably more if you’re neurodivergent).

And you know what? That’s not a you problem. That’s a being-a-human problem.

The kids who seem like they’ve got everythign figured out? Also weird. Just better at hiding it.

As adults we know we don’t grow out of being weird - we just find other people who are our brand of weird. That’s the whole point of life: finding your village of weirdos and enjoying each day as it comes.
