For many older Australians, back pain is a long-term reality. But long-term does not have to mean untreated, unmanaged or accepted as an inevitable part of ageing.

The 2026 Australian Spinal Health Survey conducted by found that 48.3% of Australians aged 61 and over with back pain have chronic pain, the highest rate of any age group. More than four in ten (42.5%) report reduced physical mobility as a direct result of back pain.

As we age, back pain can progressively limit activity, independence, sleep and social participation, all of which can affect mental wellbeing and quality of life.

While older Australians may be less likely to report stress or anxiety linked to back pain, higher rates of chronic pain, mobility loss and sleep disruption point to a persistent long term burden.

Earlier this month Dr Jared, Dr Jade & Dr Declan attended a seminar called the IN8 Summit. This is a a two‑day vitalistic chiropractic event bringing together Chiropractors, students, and wellness professionals for a program centred on chiropractic philosophy, client communication, and personal growth.
