to attend, present, connect with and learn from Indigenous peoples from all over the world at the
• What does it mean to truly know a plant?

For Indigenous peoples who have lived in relationship with these plants for generations, their wisdom is not something learned from a book. It is carried through experience, tradition, ceremony, and a deep, life-long relationship with nature.

At the World Ayahuasca Forum Indigenous voices like Benki Piyãko are bringing forward an essential message: these plants must be respected and stewarded by those who have studied them, learned from them, and carried their traditions across generations.

Benki has spent his life defending Indigenous peoples, protecting the Amazon, and safeguarding the wisdom and traditions surrounding medicinal plants. He is one of the leading Indigenous voices advocating for the responsible protection and preservation of ayahuasca and the cultures connected to it.

The World Ayahuasca Forum created a space for Indigenous peoples who have dedicated their lives to these plants to share their teachings, perspectives, and recommendations for their future.

What a special week at the World Ayahuasca Forum in Girona, Spain, strengthening existing relationships, creating new connections and contributing to important global conversations.

IPAT Co-Founders Jem Stone and Bianca Sebben presented Sacred Science: Right Relationship, Cultural Humility, and the Inclusion of Indigenous Knowledge Systems in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy.

Together, they shared IPAT’s work in Australia and spoke about the importance of Indigenous leadership, reciprocity and bringing Indigenous and Western knowledge systems into genuine relationship within the rapidly evolving psychedelic therapy landscape.

Jem also brought an Australian perspective to the Global Dialogues, speaking about the ongoing impacts of colonisation on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and sharing pathways forward grounded in Country, culture and Dadirri: deep listening, as a way of weaving the worlds of Indigenous knowledge and Western science. Drawing on her lived experience of working across both systems, she reflected on how deep listening can help us build respectful relationships and move forward together in right relationship.

We learned so much from the incredible presentations shared by people from across the world, particularly about the ways Indigenous peoples are protecting their sacred medicines, cultures, lands and knowledge systems while continuing to lead conversations about reciprocity, responsibility and right relationship.

We leave Girona deeply grateful for the relationships strengthened, the new connections formed and the many conversations that will continue beyond the Forum.

A truly meaningful week of listening, learning, sharing and weaving worlds together.

As we continue sharing the Indigenous Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies message across Australia and with international audiences, we pause to reflect on the journey that began in 2023 when psychedelic therapy was rescheduled for mental health treatment in Australia.

Our Honouring Tree is represented by Lemon Myrtle, a sacred Australian medicine plant symbolising our roots, growth and enduring connection to Country.

Becoming the only Indigenous organisation within Australia’s psychedelic space has taken courage, persistence and a shared commitment to ensuring Indigenous voices, knowledge systems and leadership are represented within this rapidly evolving field.

We honour the challenges and triumphs that have shaped us, the founding members who planted the first seeds, and every person who has shared, supported and carried the vision of IPAT.

Our branches will continue to grow as we begin training more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander psychedelic therapists this year, while continuing to support all therapists to provide more culturally responsive care through the respectful weaving of Indigenous wisdom and Western science.

As we step into this next chapter as an Indigenous charity, we remain deeply grateful for our roots and committed to nurturing a more balanced and culturally responsive psychedelic therapy landscape for generations to come.

We are honoured to share that two of the IPAT Co-Founders, Jem Stone and Bianca Sebben, will be presenting at the World Ayahuasca Forum 2026 in Girona, Spain, this September.

Their presentation, “Sacred Science: Right Relationship, Cultural Humility, and the Inclusion of Indigenous Knowledge Systems in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy,” will explore what it means to genuinely bring Indigenous and Western knowledge systems into relationship within the rapidly evolving field of psychedelic-assisted therapy.

Drawing from the work of IPAT in Australia, & sharing their experience over the past three years navigating the Australian clinical psychedelic therapy space in this way, Jem and Bianca will speak to right relationship, cultural humility, reciprocity & Indigenous leadership, and the importance of creating spaces where both Indigenous and Western knowledge systems are truly valued, without one being positioned as more legitimate or authoritative than the other.

It is about moving beyond simply “including” Indigenous perspectives within existing Western models, towards genuine relationship and ways of working where different ways of knowing, being and doing can sit alongside one another, each bringing their own wisdom and strengths.

Jem and Bianca stand strong together as an embodiment of the weaving of these worlds, demonstrating what becomes possible when we meet across knowledge systems with respect, humility, reciprocity and a willingness to truly learn from one another. This is the foundation of our work at IPAT and something we have been committed to putting into practice as we have navigated Australia’s emerging clinical psychedelic therapy landscape over the past three years.

We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to bring the work and experiences of Indigenous Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies (IPAT) into this international conversation, and to listen, share and learn alongside Indigenous knowledge holders, researchers, practitioners and communities from around the world.

We are honoured to have Dr Glauber Loures de Assis share his wisdom with us as a guest presenter during our 7-day IPAT Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy training.

Bringing his extensive work across psychedelic confluence, cosmic diplomacy, Indigenous biocultures and ethical collaboration, Glauber offers an important perspective on reciprocity, relationship and the future of psychedelic practice.

We are honoured to have Dr Simon Ruffell join us as a guest presenter for our upcoming IPAT 7-Day Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy On Country Training.

Simon will share insights from his work bridging psychedelic research, Western medicine and Indigenous approaches to healing, exploring how Indigenous knowledge, reciprocity and genuine collaboration can help shape the future of psychedelic science.

We are also very happy to officially welcome Simon as the newest Director on the IPAT team, and are grateful for the knowledge, experience and perspective he brings to our work.
